I'd like to share an issue I found playing in my last Dynamid Duos 3 game.
The problem is about the failed upgrade of a SB being an AR when a tech was gained in the same turn via scrapping.

In a certain year both planets Cramp and Emperium Gate are upgrading a SB from "Paradise 2.5.4.JG" to "Paradise 2.5.5.JG" for a cost lower than the resources they are producing (no lack of minerals). Both items are "green" in the production queue since they are supposed to be completed in just one year. After the generation, if a tech has been gained via scrapping (in this case it is propulsion, so it cannot influence a SB upgrade), the upgrade has not been completed.
I tryed many SB upgrade with different cost and this is what I found:

Upgrade cost --------------- 51 -- 52 -- 53 -- 54
____________________________________________________
Cramp (58) ---------------- 100% 99% 97% 97%
Emperium Gate (57) --- 100% 97% 95% 95%

Cramp produces 58 resources and Emperium Gate 57. The upgrade can be finished only if it costs less then 52 resources (51 or less). Otherwise in the previous table are set the percentage of construction.

I repeat that this only occurs if a tech has been gained via tech trading.

Without a tech gain both planets managed to upgrade a SB with a cost of 57.

I found this problem many other times in the same game but managed to analyse it deeply only for this year.
A problem is that I did not manage to create another game with this issue to reply it and replicate it.

Does anyone have any idea of what it could have happened?

Thanks.

Max.

Were the planets flagged as contributing at least the percentage set in the Research dialog (F5), ie. the check box in the lower left of the Queue window was unchecked? And what was that percentage set in the F5 dialog?

I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.

It may not be due to an increase in cost of the SB but a decrease in resources gained from scrapping the old SB. For example propulsion has an impact on torpedoes so if you scrap (upgrade) an SB with torps you may not get as much back due to miniturisation affecting the cost of torpedoes. Without knowing the detail of the SB designs it is hard to be more specific, but this may be an avenue worth looking at. It has been noted before.

I assume the JG part of the starbase name means it has gate, did the new starbase have the same gate? If not, then the propulsion tech increase could have had an effect.

Skip the guesswork, go directly to the answer. Yes, Propulsion tech did it, via post-techgains discounts on your Gate, that you had rebuilt pre-techgains at the full old cost. Shocked Evil or Very Mad Hit Computer

So basically, if a component miniaturises during upgrade, you pay a 4% "tax" on it to ensure it still complies with safety standards. Razz

Nah. Its like taking a Trabant to the BMW shop for trade. This functions exactly as should be expected. Stars is intuitive that way.

Having never been to Germany nor owned a car, I can't say I find that analogy particularly intuitive or helpful. Razz

You pay the cost difference, whatever it is.

It's akin to buying a whole new car just because it has a better radio than your old one and *afterwards* selling yours in hopes to recoup all but the new radio's cost, because it's the same make and model of car. And all the while the shop insists that they're only charging you for the new radio. Evil or Very Mad

Regardless of what some pranksters would want others to believe, this is not documented or expected or even intuitive behavior. Whip
