Is there an experienced player that can lend a hand?

I'm hosting and playing in a game (Stone Age Slog). One of the players has had an important fleet fail to move when it should have done, and a bug is suspected. He'd like a third party to have a look at his turns, to try and work out what's happened.

Any help appreciated!

If the fleet was at the same spot as a Mystery Trader and was trying to continue following the MT by using the blue diamond target list, it did not move because of the order of events.

To continue following the MT, you have to have other ships arrive at the new waypoint and target them instead of the MT.

This is documented elsewhere on Home World Forum.

It's a fleet of warships that should have retreated, but didn't, and got trashed as a result. The player can't find a reason for it, which is why he'd like an independent review.

Sorry for only looking at the obvious stuff.

The player doesn't have Cheap Engines as a trait does he?

Sometimes people turn off their cheap engine failure messages because there are so many . . .

I'm sure Ashlyn will look at the current turn for messages like "the waypoint that fleet ### was targeting no longer exists or is out of sensor range".

Especially when fleet ### also no longer exists.

I believe she can also check the previous turn's commands to make sure no waypoint zero task prevented the fleet from making a waypoint one retreat.

A couple questions, assuming some part of the fleet survived: Sherlock

1) Does the fleet still show its "destination" target?
2) Is it targeting another fleet?
3) Do other players see the fleet as stationary?

There's a couple poorly understood bugs that could be at play here. Hit Computer

Its only lotsa free floating minerals so yes it is stationary Very Happy

It might have been a mis-click because it was in a cluster of fleets that were spred over several adjacent pixels, it took me a few trys just to get a waypoint on the fleet because of the clutter of a ship on almost every pixel. I think that was the intent and it backfired, at least I hope so, that fleet needs to die. Twisted Evil

Sorry to hear about your troubles considering that Ron is away. I would recommend that you request the pertinent x file submission when he returns. It is much easier to see just what went wrong when you can see the actual orders given. I have seen something similar. A comparable issue arose for players playing their turns on second computers and the battle order mismatch that resulted. Good luck.

Hi!

Check the "Stuck" bug in second post (Coding bugs) of the Stars! 2.6/7 » Stars! - Must Know » Known Bugs (JRC3) - Player Exploitable Bugs / "Features" topic.

Has the player set flags to be raised at certain point, like asking for a fleet to lay mines even though there is no mine layers in the fleet?

I guess it might be possible that a fleet simply doesn't move as intended if it sits tight reporting it can't do whatever.

Is there per chance some kind of mineral transfer between two players?

hi ,

have fixed the files so it could go on normal. But still looking why the "bug" happened see so far no reason for it.

If the afflicted fleet was targeting another fleet while being itself targeted, then it might be some variation of bugs that have been seen before. Sherlock

Hi ,

if it was so easy i would be happy Razz
The fleet has a WP1 taget to merge. And no other fleet tagetting it. No mine lay order or mineral load order.

At all nothing should stop the fleet from moving.
Also it was the 2. Round they stay in space without a reasone.

I could fix that the fleet move like it should but have no clue why the fleet has not done this by there own.

They have had a regen maybe some old x-files are used but dont know it at all. Have now all files but dont think it will help. Or at least I dont see why this happened.

Isn't that the only other cause of the frozen ship incident?

My guess was it was caused by an earlier regen of the game by the host, as it was at that time the fleet quit moving propourly. CC did request all the files to look at them, and ill be looking at my turn tomorrow to see what has happened with the fix he did.

Far as I know, yes, but ccmaster said there was no-one targeting the "stuck" fleet. Confused

I've never heard of a regen causing that kind of bug. Confused

Also, the problem should have been reported when 1st it appeared. Work at computer

It was reported the 2nd year it occured, since i wanted to error on the side of me making a mistake with a merge fleet order. When it never moved the 2nd year (after i removed all my other fleets orders targeting the said fleet) i reported it. I wanted to make sure it wasnt by my hand the fleet didnt move before saying it was anything else.

Hmmmm, a multi-turn "stuck" is more complex to analyze. Sherlock The 1st turn it might have been your own fleets that triggered the bug, while afterwards it might have been foreign fleets that triggered a related but different bug. Hit Computer
