As I was reading about http://www.kickstarter.com and how some indie games are funded this way, I was just thinking: somebody should make a Kickstarter project for the stars sequel.
It's too bad the original sequel got dropped, but times have changed and it might be possible now to reach out to enough people to make it happen. If the original devs, or even another group with real passion and talent made a Kickstarter project, I know I'd donate. Wouldn't you guys?

You'd do better with Nova imo

The thing about kickstarting something like Stars Nova, is that it seems strange using that platform to kickstart a project that is a direct clone of something that already exists.
However, I think the beauty of something like Kickstarter is that if the funding goal is reached, it then gives professional developers the resources to devote their time to the project, likely something more ambitious.
Barring a sequel (which wouldn't be a true sequel anyways I suppose, it would be like a new 4x game based on Stars concepts), I think even an updated, refined Stars would be welcome. For example the "attack who" part of the battle orders affecting minesweeping, being able to dodge by splitting fleets (which rewards a hellish kind of MM, from defender and attacker alike), and even the autobuild options all could use some tweaking.
