So I've played on SAH before many years ago, and have always loved Stars! I've been lurking the forum hoping for a new game to join for some time now, but nothing has come up. So, presenting 'Back to Basics':
6 players
-Medium / Normal / Distant
-Acc BBS
-Slower Tech
CA Banned, JoaT can't take NAS
Single Winner determined by vote ( majority rules, "no clear winner - keep playing" as an option )
Regular cheat disclaimer, Chaff okay as well as split-fleet dodge and the healing after gating.
As for generation, I'd like to do either M-T-W-R-F or every 32 hours, and then slow down upon request, but am open to changing that if necessary - input?
That's it, simple game, for for me (personally) to get back into Stars! I've never hosted before so hopefully you can all bear with me if there are any kinks.
Current Players:
1. LaserBeard (race file ready)
2. gjarvie (race file received)
3. nmid (race file received)
4. LittleEddie (race file received)
5. ssampson88
6. aprahanti (race file received)
Edit: We seem to have all our players, so get those passworded racefiles to BeeKeepr - rjohnlaidler "at" btinternet.com along with your forum name and race password for checking. Other interested players can be used as standbys in case someone doesn't come through.

I am already in 2 games so can't join but if I was I would advise against public player scores. I have only played in one game with PPS and because we could see after a while one or two players were far outstripping the rest of us the enthusiasm to keep playing on began to wane.
The underdogs might have grouped together to take them on but it didn't happen and the game sort of fizzled out. About half the players kept going in a rather desultory fashion for a few turns but it was eventually won by the players left behind after the rest of us picked up our toys and walked off into the sunset.
Not having PPS will not stop you seeing you are 5th or 6th but at least it doesn't show how far behind you might be and there is always hope you can do better!
A single winner will also make alliances harder to form and hold as each side will always wonder when the other partner is going to turn on them. Unless of course you want it to be a single player game with no alliances - which you can achieve if you say every other player has to be set to enemy.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. I'm not set on PPS so if those who are interested in playing don't want it I'd be fine to have it off.
I don't want to remove diplomacy from the game. For the games I've played, alliances / NAPs / etc have had a X year warning to breaking the agreement which I think is fine in this scenario and makes for an interesting game, otherwise a universe of 3 teams of 2 for most of game might be a little dull.
Again, TBH I'm just trying to get in a game and am not overly picky about the parameters, I figured this was a solid vanilla scenario that wouldn't be too hard to get players for.

I love new players coming in, but somehow they never stick around too long once the game finishes.
If the schedule is going to be a fast one, I'll be interested in fielding a race.

Yeah I figured since the rules are simple and I'd like to think that people here are honorable, that we wouldn't need a 3rd party check - I don't have the passwords for the racefiles so I can't look myself. If you're willing that would be great, as well as generating the universe.
There goes my elaborate plan to be a NAS JoaT with 100% concentrations, haha.
So everyone email rjohnlaidler "at" btinternet.com instead with racefile and password (right?) so he can check.
Because you'd be genning the universe I won't need the player's race files at all, correct? You'll send everything to me so I can pass it on to Ron, or would you send it to him directly (I guess because I could re-gen myself?)
Thanks.

they aren't?
I thought they were...
I just rechecked, the wiki says they aren't either.

Below the list of Random Events:
MT visit
comet strike : A large comet has crashed into (xxx) bringing a wide variety of new minerals and drastically altering the planet's environment.
Planets can get hit by a comet. Those come unannounced and kill pop on the surface. Defenses or a mass drivers are not taken into account. A comet randomly leaves an amount of minerals on the surface and randomly increases mineral concentrations. The amount of pop killed increases with the size of the comet. There are 3 sizes: small (leaves one minerals, increases one concentrations), large (leaves two mineral, increases two concentration) and huge (leaves all three minerals, increases all concentrations).
planetary change : Fundamental changes in the environment of (yyy) have permanently altered the planet's Temperature. This change has canceled all planetary production.
Sudden changes in the hab settings of a planet, independent of the habs of the inhabiting race
suddenly discovered mineral storages : your people discover a hidden supply in one type of mineral, with as result that the concentration is increased
colonization bonus : when you colonize a planet you have a chance to discover artifacts. Those artifacts contribute a small amount of resources (100-200?) to one of the tech fields. You do however need to bring a minimun (1000?) of pop and the planet cannot be colonized before. Colonizing more planets in one year increases the chance to discover artifacts. (true?)
note: checking No Random Events (NRE) when creating a game will turn all these off
