I'm interested. I'm returning to the game after a long hiatus. I think I played two games against human players many years ago, and got crushed both times.

Do beginners' games usually get filled quite fast then? I'm beginning to worry a little that this game won't get started due to lack of interested beginners.
The setup seems oriented towards a very fast-paced game. Is that the best setup for a beginners' game?

I suspect it may just be a timing issue. I would probably have gone for this game but I went for Vanilla 2012 instead, which recently started, plus there is the Stone Age Slog game which also started recently.
There is a British saying about waiting all day for a bus and then 3 come along at the same time. Seems to be a bit like that with new games at the moment.
I am not sure what you mean by a fast-paced game. Most games start at one turn every 24 hours or so and then slow down to say 3 turns a week later. I have not found this fast-paced as turns in the early years are pretty simple if for no reason other than the player does not have many ships or planets to play with.
My advice, if you haven't already done this, would be to set up games against the AI while you are waiting fo the game to start. These games should be as close as possible to the real game in the sense of being in the same sized universe with the same number of opponents. Then just try different approaches so you know the order you are going to do research, how many scouts etc. I think you only need to go as far as about 2420 as beyond that the human game is likely to be so very different to a game against the AIs.

I was referring to the high density, relatively small universe for the number of suggested players, and AccBBS start. Players are going to be running into each other early, and ending up with relatively large, difficult-to-manage (for beginners) populations quite quickly. On the one hand, the game will likely be over quickly. On the other, the players are going to have to make more decisions per turn, which might not be such a good idea for a beginner's game.
I would have thought a game in a medium universe with normal density and no AccBBS (the defaults, basically) would be easier (and more familiar) to most beginners.

It's been a week, and only two players (and maybe a third) have expressed interest. So, here's a proposal, solely to see if it pulls in any more potential players. Have the game settings be entirely default: small, normal density, moderately distant positions, no special options, 3 or 4 players. Yes, it will be a slower, longer game, and thus require a longer time commitment, but it will also give beginners more time to think about their actions, and more time to recover from any mistakes. Classic Stars!, if you will.

Or "Players who do badly against humans". That would include me! I am an Advanced Loser.
