Can you at least check what the upgraded base cost was when you queued it last turn, and what that cost is now? my 2 cents

Also, what were the costs for the base design being replaced? Is it the same in both turns or has it changed? Teleport

And, just to be complete, what minerals were present? Is the current stockpile coherent with the past stockpile plus mining minus what was used in the Starbase? UFO abduction

I had plenty of minerals at the planet. The production queue was only with the sb upgrade and terraforming after that. The upgrade cost was 67 res both the year I set the production and the following one when it was not completed. The planet produced 70 res (both before and after) but the upgrade was completed only to 89%.

I'm going to add an example of what occurred some turn ago when I tried to upgrade the same sb in two different planets to the same new one. Also in that turn I got weapons tech via scrapping.

planet 1:
production:31
SB upgrade cost: 25
minerals:more than necessary.
% complete the following turn: 93%
SB upgrade cost the following turn: 23

planet 2:
production: 26
SB upgrade cost: 25
minerals:more than necessary.
% complete the following turn: 78%
SB upgrade cost the following turn: 23

in both cases the SB upgrade was the only item in the queue.

Did you have ISB? If ISB is falsely displaying the 20% discount on the entirety of they starbase cost its may explain the incomplete build.

67 resource cost (ISB displayed) x 1.2 to get relative actual cost = 80.4 resources

70 resources produced on planet (put to build) / 80.4 actual resources needed to complete = 87%

seems like this might be the case. Altho actual cost would be more around 84 resources to get a 67.2 displayed cost after a 20% reduction. Was just showing the quick math i used to come up with this.

Shocked that's pretty tight! Anything that ate just 2 Resources could have caused the problem. Were the Resources that tight too in the most recent instance of the same bug?

Do you have fancy LRTs like UR or BET? What about your Research settings? Do you devote a fixed percent of each planet's Resources to Research? And if so, how much? Sherlock

I often leave 50-100 or 5% extra resources for those special upgrades/tech breaks.
Been burned too many times, not to take care...



I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.
I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.

Well, if you study the cost of research you'll notice that it increase slightly as your total number of known tech get higher. If you always plan to the precise resource for the next tech level and you gain another level elsewhere via battle or even simply by gaining two levels in the same year then you'll indeed get burned by the fact your calculation will be off.

That, and because of the weird way STARS! round off numbers it is pretty hard to calculate precisely anything.

So, to make a long story short... Calculating some leeway (like 5%) is a good idea.

bummer.. I KNEW I had read this somewhere..
so I make the ignoble mistake of not leaving a resource margin despite knowing better.... and then, AFTER I spend a couple of hours creating testbeds and writing out summaries, which proved that rounding errors weren't the cause of the failed upgrades, I finally recollected that the error margins reminded me of a topic I had read on the forums somewhere before.

Sigh, wish I remembered this two turns ago.. or even a couple of hours earlier.

Oh well, testbed is created. I'll upload it for the others.
