Now if I could just get my login to automate again... Crying or Very Sad

That should totally wipe out all your cookies. Then you can try logging into the forum again and see if it works. Also, the automatic login has a timeout, so don't expect to come back many hours later and still be logged in (I think).

I wish I could say it helped, but nada. I also tried deltree cookies and deltree history in addition to deltree tempor~1. These three are supposed to clear everything you ever wanted to clear. I still have to type my username and password in each time. Crying or Very Sad
The funny thing is another site I visit often, even though I deleted ALL history, etc. all I had to do is type my username in and it remembered my password.
And when I logged on to this site it remembered the posts I haven't read. So it appears that this memory is partially in the server end not the user end? And this part works for me on all regular sites except this one, ever since you upgraded to the new format. So what is different that has caused me login problems since then, but only on this site. By logic one would have to assume the problem is at your end only since it only occurs on this site with my computer and not on numerous other sites? Are you doing something different from everyone else? Am I the only one having to type in password each time I log on here? What are tonights lottery numbers? Smile

That might be because you logged in from another computer in the mean time?
I'm always logged in at the computer I used last to read the forum, only when I use a different computer I have to log in again ...

I frequently log into various sites on two different computers and I find that I am only remembered on my home computer. The computers at my school, even if I use the exact same one, never seem to remember my login information. Perhaps this is because of the network and the tech-nazi's.

I find role playing to make games incredibly better and gives you much more flexibility. Early in games, there is often little to do but diplomacy, and doing it in character makes it more fun.

In addition, if a certain role is causing you terrible grief, there's always the coup, where your character is killed and a much more, er, usable character takes over. Or you can have a whole set of them, each useable for different kinds of dealings.

All in all, this lasts the whole game with enemies, neutrals, and if I am role playing an obvious scum bag, allies I may not want to keep (OK, never stabbed anyone yet, but I've kept the options open on occassion). For true allies, I often drop the role, though, as it tends to get in the way of open and efficient dealings.

I am always very careful about how I sign messages - either in character or using my real name - so people know how to take it. All in all, if it's from me, you can take it at face value. If it's from a character, caveat emptor.

Hope it helps,

Jeff

I find that Role-Playing can add interest to the beginning of a slow game, or for that matter even up to the late middle of it. However, my patience often falls with Role-Playing when I have many other things to do that will actually affect the outcome of the game. Although there are sometimes that it is a good way to get your brain to stop from hurting after a long time spent micromaneging.

As a guide I will always stop roleplaying if and when my character starts to get in the way of me winning. Then I just go back to myself and start killing people. Twisted Evil

Funny, it seems that role-playing is very popular, everyone does it, but you know what?

I havn't ever noticed much role-playing, even when I do role-play. Unless of course, by "role-playing" everyone means only that they say "WE" instead of "I" while communicating with other players. Razz That's about as far as any of the role-playing that I've seen in Stars ever goes.

"We don't like your scouts in our area, so SCOOT!" isn't exactly role-playing, in the opinion of an old AD&D junkie like myself. Cool

Interesting topic.

It is my - completely unscientific - impression, that RPing has worn off with time. Perhaps ppl got fed up with it or perhaps it's just because the Stars! community has shrunk and the wildest weirdoes and hotheads have moved on to something else?

In any case, I haven't seen any real RPing the last couple of years. More like ppl will crack a joke or come with a sarcastic remark in a third person way, but I wouldn't call that RPing.

On my own part, I rarely RP systematically. I did it in one game where I had almost every turn some comment to everyone of what was going on inb my empire. It was ia. because I was trying to awaken a sleepy game where the vast majority did nothing at all to stop a runaway leader.

I was in a low ranking position (like 5 or 6 out of 10) so my public appeals and press announcements earned me the full attention of #1 who attacked while #2 and 3 twiddled their thumbs. Fortunately this gave me the opportunity to broadcast even more propaganda about my big victories (mostly true - I managed to pull off some very low odds victories, ia. in defense of my HW).

Eventually I needed a diplomatic shift at some point where some players had almost been convinced to join me. I 'killed' the primary character I had used to make room for a new one with another style. That helped, I think.

During all this time, noone really picked up my RPing, but OTOH noone complained either (I sometimes see hosts ban messages to everyone. Why? You can just click past).

In case anyone of you happened to be in that game, it was the 'Late Birds' aka 'Birds' race - a HP SS going against a -f HG SD (suicide anyone? Smile

ROFLMAO

Well, I got it, Ron.

But, to the orginal question.

I like role-playing in all its varieties. I've sometimes resorted to the simple "we" vs. "I" trick, simply because that was all I had time for. I've also been know to send out "newspapers", complete with headlines and column writers, on a semi-regular basis, but you know how spotty mail delivery can be in a war-torn galactic arm. Nod I've even had multiple cast members, filling the parts of Commander-in-Chief, Emperor, Press Secretary, Ship's Captain, etc. Various diplomats claiming to know nothing of their leader's intentions are good, too.

I've not noticed RPing causing me to die quicker. Perhaps it is because a lot of folks start out with xenophobic "Get the Hades out of my space you puking, bad, alien race you!"

Maybe not. Saber-rattling is pretty prevalent, though, in my experience.

When I started playing PBEM games in 2000, seems a lot of players wanted to play in 3 or more games at a time. That would definitely make it difficult to find time to RP in a game, IMHO. I'm not sure how folks are playing nowadays, just coming back into the group again. Don't bother looking for a lot of posts from me, though. I've never done a lot, and certainly not consistently. It was all I could do to keep up with the games I was in, and I've never played more than two at once.

But now I have a bit more free time to work with, so I'm back, you see.

Well, enough for now. I'm starting to ramble. Rolling Eyes Must be something about approaching 50 and all.

Respectfully,
The Crusader Angel
