This is a game idea from John316 that I played in a while ago. Unfortunately the game I was in was stopped early and we never had a chance to finish. So I want to give this a go again. I modified the race rules just a little banning factoryless HE and Joat cannot take NAS. Here are the game rules:

Players: 8 players, intermediate and above.

Universe: Small, normal, distant, SLOW TECH, ACC BBS

Victory: 100% consensus vote from remaining players, alliance win possible (but limited to two).

Schedule: M-T-W-T-F until at least turn 30. Move to M-W-F when at least two players have requested a slowdown.

Race Limitations: ALL races MUST take weapons expensive and the Bleeding Edge Tech LRT. No factoryless HE. This means that the GR of the HE cannot be more than 10(20) and factories cannot be less than default. Joat cannot take NAS. There are otherwise no restrictions. Races will be verified by the third party prior to start.

Special Rules: NO TECH TRADING ALLOWED. No scrapping, no pop dropping allies for tech gain, no wolf-lamb. You may not scrap MT ships for tech gain or share MT parts through scrapping. You may trade ships to other players, but if scrapping those ships would produce tech gains, they may never be scrapped (design may be deleted, however). Sending an "observer" ship to watch a battle in hopes of gaining tech is allowed, as long as the battle is between enemies.

Gaining tech through legitimate battle with enemies (in space or through invasion) is allowed and encouraged, however.

NO PRE-GAME ALLIANCES ALLOWED. This ruins the game for everyone.

Cheats allowed: Healing after gating, chaff, split-fleet dodge, mine damage dodge. All other cheats forbidden (cheap starbases, etc).

Host is playing, so I am looking for a 3rd party to check races.

Thanks,

May I suggest removing the mine damage dodge from the list? I've learnt the hard way that it's not allowed in most of the games... Also, keeping in mind with the game theme, clearing mines should be a relatively hard thing to do Smile

Also, I can understand why no -f HE, but why penalize a JOAT? That would open up the flood gates against all other races as well... for eg CA etc.

I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.
I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.

I am open to not allowing the mine damage dodge.

As far as the JOAT not taking NAS, the JOAT is a good race for this setup with the start at 3, and a good portion of the Stars community, including myself feels that the JOAT gets too many points for NAS and doesn't get the penalty of no pen scans.

While CA is allowed, I don't think it is the best race for this setup. This is a very crowded game, I don't think there is enough room for a CA to really get going.

Put me down as wanting to play, I do have to think about the race for a bit.

No tech trading puts a twist to it. Along with 16 planets per player!!!

Yep, 16 planets, slow tech, BET, and W expensive makes for a very different game Very Happy

Add no tech trading and you are on your own for all techs. You may want to read the threads on the previous Stone Age Slaughter games.

I am very interested as well. It sounds like a good challenge and requires some lateral thinking.

I am playing in two games at the moment but one of them (Tenderfeet) is coming to an end soon or at least reaching a point when it is just an academic point which of the two leading players (who are allies) wins outright.

The other game (FAVII) you know well as host and will go on for some time yet I think.

Players so far:

Me
LittleEddie
rolfverberg
BeeKeeper
Cieply
jools

2 slots are left. One thing I hadn't mentioned in the game rules is the mystery trader. It has the potential to make the game really exciting. I can imagine some of the best battles could occur trying to prevent other players from meeting it. It could also unbalance the game if only a few player get access to it.

So, do we want the MT, or not?

Removing the MT would remove the suspense from the game...I can imagine that if I was struggling I could console myself with the fact that maybe the MT might appear next year and save me!

So I agree with Little Eddie.

You must have the gambling addiction gene.

It is more likely that the larger empire attacking you will get to meet the MT, destroy your freighters filled with metal, and get a good laugh out of it. Laughing

Yes to allowing the MT. As in the film 2001, the aliens need to give the stone age people a bit of help.

Now to race design - One World Wonder or Tri-immune? Or something in between? CA, TTF? Decisions, decisions...

When is this game going to start? I am in 2 games now. Not sure I can handle a 3rd.

As far as when the game would start, I am guessing about a week after we get the 8th player. This would allow plenty of time for testing for this situation.

I am in 2 games as well, same two as you I believe, but those games are getting closer to being finished. I figured that I would be playing the early years in this game just as the other 2 were being wrapped up. The last thing I want is a gap in my stars games. Very Happy

Great!

I too believe mine damage doge should not be allowed.
I love the MT.
I hope someone can randomly check to see if anyone is trying to tech trade sense it is so important that we research our selves.

I hope that there will be some sort of restriction on CA races sense they are so powerful.

Other than that I'm a happy camper that is looking forward to testing some races.

I am open to this, but I don't think it is necessary. The past Stone Age Slaughter games allowed CA and I don't recall that a CA won any of the previous games. This is a really crowded game, which doesn't give the typical monster CA enough time to get going.

I haven't seen any votes against, so we will most likely be playing with the MT.

I can go either way with this, I don't think it is a game changer. It is just a pain to police which is why I prefer to allow it in games.

We do need a third party to check races. We can ask the same person to check on things from time to time.

Is there a volunteer to check on races and check on the game every once in a while?

Thanks,

That is true it is crowded for a CA to grow. My question is can CA use on other players or give there terraform ships to other players? It is sorta like trading and should not be allowed?

I'd be happy to. Since I can't participate in the game (it would be too many games running), it would be nice to experience it vicariously through everybody else.

Do you need help setting the game up? I mean, in for a penny, in for a pound...

Cheers,
Void

I'd like to join.

I'd advise against allowing the MT. If it gives out tech then it seriously unbalances the game in favour of those who get the tech.
