BlueTurbit wrote on Mon, 27 June 2011 22:15 | Isn't that a big jump? Going from 10 to 12 players and large/normal to huge/normal? That's almost 300 more planets.
I see the ads for replacements now:
Wanted, replacements. Applicants need at least an extra 12 hours a week free time to do your turns. Likely more.
If you have a wife or girlfriend, say goodbye now, while you still have the time.

Understanding significant other
Large Normal: approx 43 planets for 12 players, or 51 for 10.
Large Dense: approx 53 planets for 12 players.
IIRC 40/player is good for AR.

Doh!
Walked away from post, got distracted, posted, missed all the action between times.

You're all nuts, the lot of you.
I am most definitely NOT joining this game, in case anyone had any lingering doubts from my earlier posts.

ForceUser wrote on Tue, 28 June 2011 11:11 | What if we have 2 games in one. there will be a winner between 1, 2 and 3 and a winner between 4, 5 and 6. The idea is to have 2 games, north and south, but with potential influence/interference from the other "game".
Allies and Empires: Allies being your team mate and Empires, North and South. Kinda like what happened in the cold war. At the end each "empire" will be strong and advanced that a conflict will potentially last forever.
Potential problems could be 2 vs 4 and 3 vs 5. Any ideas on a good reason/idea to split them up?
What do you guys think?

I reckon things will progress naturally much along these same lines without a need to set explicit rules. Teams will grow, others will be defeated, and we'll be down to 4, 3, or perhaps 2 big Teams that will slug it out to the bitter end.
With Nubians. As any truly epic game should be.
So many Stars, so few Missiles!

I intended to join, but Large/dense is WAY above my planets_per_player and galaxy_size limits.
Do you realise what Large/dense means?
You'll have nubians before even meeting the guy from the opposite corner. With mineral fountains everywhere the real limitation will be the Stars! numbers limits. The MM-guys will burn out, the casual players will drop because they'll not stand the needed MM. In late game this thing will be simply too big to enjoy.
My suggestion: split players in two small/packed or medium/normal games. If you do, I'll join.

And the best advantage of such an epic game is the epic diplomacy and backstabbing, which is negated by it being a team game.
I remember my first game. 4 players in a Large Packed. We all quit at around 2420, once we realised how ridiculous the whole thing was.
Only true Warp-9-capable ships will be able to physically reach players other than your immediate neighbours, and then not at top speed the whole way. For a Galaxy Scoop ship to cross the universe from one side to the other will take over 15 turns. For the final war to finish, given a blitzkrieg-like front movement rate of 20 ly/turn across the entire front (that's 5-6 planets a turn, I haven't seen many wars quicker), would take a colossal 40 turns. Such a game will likely take 200 turns to finish, at the very least - that's a year and three months even at 3 turns per week.
You're crazy.
Bonne chance!

@Magic
Guess you never heard of gates, wormholes and IT races, since you only expand through space?
Epic games are supposed to end well into the 2500's not before, like many games. Of course, often there are earlier surrenders, when one team obviously is too dominant in the nubian era, after killing a couple of main enemy fleets in big battles.
PS 4 players in a large/packed can't be compared with 12 players in a large/dense. Apples and oranges.

@magic
PS
Also the guidelines for posting in this thread are listed at top of this forum:
Quote: | Replies to new game annoucements should fit the following conditions:
1. Confirmation that you are interesting in joining the game.
2. Question on game settings/rules.
3. Reply/clarification from game host on game settings/rules.
4. Pre-game announcements by game host.
|
Your last two posts: you're all nuts, and you're crazy don't even come close to the guidelines set by Ron
PS If you're not joining. Don't post here. Find another playground to howl in. Don't come to someone's game announcement and dish out negative crap to the people who are interested.
Thank you very much.

It means the number of planets is 100 more than medium packed, and the universe is 400ly wider and 400ly taller.
This game was intended to make AR playing much stronger than normal. Therefore the usual normal games are in a different reality.
