Civil War needs two players - one for each side.
The north race is IT -see Peptis for details.
The south race is CA -see Paladin for details.

The game is bipartite 6 vs 6, North vs South.
Medium,dense,no pps,accbbs,no clumping.
Intermediate->advanced players only please.
Game is run on autohost with a 26hr gen cycle.
The game year is 2451 and the war is raging.
Both teams are preorganised so be prepared for lots of teamwork and possibly a specialised race(I haven't checked but I know some of them are).

Will at some point the game slow down? I can imagine that with 6 players on each side there is a LOT of communication, taking more time than actually doing ones turn ... And with the time difference between the players 26h is tough ...

(A private forum like EDogs CTF would be intersting with 6 players ...)

I just took a look at the page, just wondering (since I can't tell by the race names): who is on who's side?

Regards,
mch

gen cycle time: I just sent out an email to the players asking generally how they felt the game was going and specifically did they want more time..(I'd vote for more hours in the day myself)

Private Forum: I asked if players wanted a game forum at the start and no-one said yes so I didn't bother(I was tempted...just to see my name in green Laughing ). A pair of private forums would certainly be more useful. Well guys? Would you like a forum each? Question (assuming the almighty Ron agrees when I ask for them)

Sides: Laughing not a US person I see. The north team races are all named after ACW generals. (I think)

To clarify:

North:Chaberlain,Meade,Grant,Reynolds,Sheradin & Sherman

South:Yallitians,Butterflies,Space Invaders,Tweety Birds,Arachnids,Apotropaics

Actually, you can. One team's race names are in a pattern, though one is misspelled from its historical precedent. Here's a hint. Said team is to the north side of the galaxy. Surprised

Not US indeed (from Belgium as you see on the left), so I completely missed that Confused ... Grant rings a bell about being a general, but I wouldn't even know what "ACW" stands for ...

Well, not US so I didn't see the pattern, gible mentioned ACW, you say "north side", guess it has something to do with the North/South war?

Yes, very much so. ACW = American Civil War

Failure on my part to not check your listed posting source, and to not take into account that you shouldn't be expected to know such things about the US. About all I know about Belgium (understatement follows) is that the beer is supposed to be good and that the Germans like taking right hooks through there when attacking France.

Therefore, my apologies.

- Kurt

P.S. - Grant might also ring a bell since he became US President post-war, and his picture is on the US $50 bill. The rest of our chosen generals didn't quite make it that high.

Since the Civil War game is being discussed here in a limited way - and replacements is sort of related to it - AND USian things I thought I'd bring up that this weekend is extended via a US holiday (Memorial Day).

Therefore, the Civil players might want to consider a temporary game hold if enough of us will be AFCwSI (Away From Computer with Stars! Installed) for the weekend.

In my case I will have limited computer time available since I will be visiting relatives. But I installed Stars! there a few years back! Twisted Evil

First, I agree that a hold this weekend would be smashing.

Second, as a American bornand bred in the South, I would prefer the term "War between the States" or "War of Northern Agression" Wink

I have no idea how much time off or when you guys get for memorial weekend, but there's been a strong call for more time in general so I've switched to M-W-F at 2200AHT (AH time Smile ) It'll skip this fridays gen so you'll have until monday night to remember what happened on the weekend Smile

I have no idea how much time off or when you guys get for memorial weekend...

I always find it amusing that us Americans always want holidays off to pause games... it is a worldwide game with international participation... so why not have all holidays off?...

What about the host that invites you to a game and sends all the details like 24 hour gens, if you miss 2 turns you get put on inactive, etc. Then all of a sudden turns are now 48 hours by request of some players. Funny thing though, you never get to know who requested it. Smile I call it the BS syndrome. The "blonde sally" syndrome. Sorry, private joke. Cool Those sally breaks are a whole 'nother post. Very Happy Reminds me of voting in some countries. "Saddam was elected by an overwhelming majority." Yeah, right. Only the living got to vote... Rolling Eyes The opposition party is under the highway construction plan. When Saddam said "my way or the highway" they didn't know he was talking about under the highway. Or what about the host that doesn't mention any holidays and then all of a sudden the game takes a spring break? Give me a break!
Holidays off? As if. Okay next month we're gonna break for Easter, Cinco de Mayo, the new moon and Mother's Day. Any Canadians out there wanna throw in Victoria Day? Oh and don't forgot Memorial Day. Rolling Eyes Hail, with all these game holidays you don't even need email anymore to coordinate with allies. Just use the mailbox. That way you get updates and maybe presents too. Instead of worrying about packets you can worry about packages. Instead of computer viruses you get a crack at the real thing via parcel post.
Once you get an answer in the mail even if you don't know where his home world is you know where his home is. Twisted Evil If he doesn't give you a good deal on territorial borders you fly up there some weekend during one of the long holds and knock on his door and say: "Howdy, I am ambassador from the Grakolites and I am here to negotiate. I gave up football, basketball and weightlifting to become negotiator this weekend. While you're taking a break I'm out here making some breaks. The last guy wouldn't give me any germanium so I break his legs.Twisted Evil I also am a federal law enforcement agent and have seven degrees in martial arts. Do you wish to negotiate now?" By the way that last package we sent you was a mistake, it was supposed to go to the Mongoids. I hope it didn't harm anyone yet? If it did I can offer you weapons tech, which I happen to have with me here under my vest, and a new world with lots of minerals, in a hole, in Arkansas.

And I like the solutions offered. Well, why don't you play more than one game, I play four? Yeah, right. Either underload or overload your butt cheeks... Yo mon, I host two, play three and am in a duel with a half-human half-vegetoid. And at work in my spare time when I am not allowed to be working I write long posts on HWForum. And on Monday and Friday I eat. And Thursday I cut the grass and get really messed up for the party on Saturday night. Yo mon were gonna bomb his HW and his major and minor planets and get really bombed out ourselves dude. Were gonna hit his fleets and our bombs until were bombed out and then hit our bombs again until we don't know who's bombed and who's bombing. Far out dude. Were gonna make some real progress soon man. Anybody up for a couple duels in between my free time? 'Cause I'm not married anymore. I lost her when I became intermediate level player. She couldn't take the micromanagement anymore and told me I had a warped drive and left me for a lemon with an Apple. Very Happy

Exclamation In case anyone wonders to the true purpose of this thread...

The North have found a replacement. Welcome to Bill who is taking over Sherman from Sotek. Sherlock

The South are still looking afaik. In the mean time the North will just have to face the hyper-cordinated(and probably caffienated) strategies of Paladin. Bounce
