1) No pregame alliances: Players aren't allowed to get in contact with each other before to optimize their race designs for a later alliance.
2) Using chaff, split-fleet dodge and the repair after gating loophole is ok, all other "cheats" are forbidden and most likely lead to your disqualification, for more info see the thread: Known Bugs (JRC3) - Player Exploitable Bugs / "Features" (or ask the host when in doubt)
3) Only one other player may be set to friend and traded tech with at any one time, all others must be set to enemy. You can change an ally after the alliance lasted for 10 years or more.
Restrictions for your race-design depending on experience
Players which have already played Stars games vs humans will have disadvantages by leaving leftover points in the race wizard and some PRTs (primary race traits) might be forbidden. I'll check the races and especially to the beginners I'll be offering some advice how to improve your design.

Hello! I'd like to join in if possible. This would be my first game (against humans), so any advice would be appreciated.

Hey, I have one question- I see the version is 2.6f, and I have read that 2.6f and 2.7f are compatible. The thing is though, that I tried out both versions and there are major differences.. for example, the 2.6f fuel mizer is great, but in 2.7f it really got nerfed and isn't nearly as awesome, also my 2.7f has more stuff, like advanced biotic armor that isn't in 2.6f.. so clearly these aren't compatible.
short question is, which version do you guys use?

First post says 2.6JRC4 or 2.7JRC3 (German) which should be found here at this link.

Where exactly did you get these two versions? There is no reference to "advanced biotic armor" in the official release notes for any version that I can find.
ETA: I did find one in the Viper mod tho, but that is edited by StarEd which only works on Stars! versions 2.6 and 2.7 I and J only.

Amadeus wrote on Fri, 03 June 2011 23:01 | It's this version: http: //www.starsfaq.com/files/stars27jrc3-patched.rar
It also has a super small "fighter" hull that carries no fuel, as well a lot more tech dependencies between components. Originally, I thought this was the latest version, so I asked.

well poo...that's actually my mistake..and is err... years old. That *is* the Viper mod (I compared the files)...and I can see it in the wiki backups from 2009..its in the downloads directory(still ), but not in the wiki because well..its not supposed to be there.. Sorry bout that.. I have emailed people to get them(@ wiki+faq) removed.
On the brighter side...as you say, the Viper mod is quite fun to play..perhaps you could host/play a game of that? (tho you won't be able to use AH for that)
ETA: removed link

Gah. I've been moving out for a few days, so I come back and the thread's flooded.
Umm, I was originally planning to just use the latest version of stars, but I don't even know what that is.
yeah, I was planning to make CA just banned across the board.
Is everyone ok with using 2.7jrc3?
I don't actually know the differences
so with amadeus, we are now at 7 players and just need one more. Fortythree isn't playing, right? or do you want to?
Also, I don't have anyone to check the races yet.
I was determining skill ranks myself, but I think it's better just to have a hard and fast rule. 2 games completed. Adv. Beginner.
Less = beginner
3 games completed = intermediate

So.. to continue hijacking the thread, because of the big fuel mizer nerf, the mod forces you to use the engines in the beginning which everyone (I assume) usually skips. Many components have tech requirements from three or even four branches which slows down the tech pace.
the question is, if it's possible to mod the game, wouldn't it be possible to update the interface and map? Wouldn't modding be more efficient than recreating the game from scratch?

I played a lot a while back, but have been out for about 6 or 7 years. Lost all my race files back then, so I am pretty much a beginner.
I would like to play, or if you are full put me down as first replacement. I would even take a drop out position after the game has started.
