Host is playing: Yes

1) No pregame alliances: Players aren't allowed to get in contact with each other before to optimize their race designs for a later alliance.

2) Using chaff, split-fleet dodge and the repair after gating loophole is ok, all other "cheats" are forbidden and most likely lead to your disqualification, for more info see the thread: Known Bugs (JRC3) - Player Exploitable Bugs / "Features" (or ask the host when in doubt)

3) Only one other player may be set to friend and traded tech with at any one time, all others must be set to enemy. You can change an ally after the alliance lasted for 10 years or more.

Restrictions for your race-design depending on experience

Welcome back to AH and Welcome to another new player Cool

Maybe try some rule sets like the FA series for a beginner game. seems to be rather nice setup from the game im in. Another part could be even asking Altruist to host another in the series since FA7 is 60 turns in now.

As for debating game rules of games it seems the bar is where that is done then the final rule sets are posted here for all interested to formally join.

I support everything Greenskin is saying even though we're currently slugging it out in FA7 Twisted Evil
If you could firm up the rules I might be up for another game.

Oh sure another game where we will likely never get an alliance due to picking the same habs off the start, resulting in us throwing rocks at each other. Im in.

Sounds good. so with greenskin, the count is at 5. we need 1-3 more.

ps - i stole that ruleset, but I didn't see anything about having to pick similar habs.

Hello! I'd like to join in if possible. This would be my first game (against humans), so any advice would be appreciated.

When you update the first post can you please put short notes in the edit lines so we can see the changes as they progress?

Aswell im seeing CA Banned for Beginners and Advanced Beginners but not for Low Intermediate players (only a 100 point penalty). Typo im guessing?

Do we also have a 3rd party to chack the races and set the game up? Aswell who will be determining player handicap (Beginner, Advanced Beginner and Low Intermediate)?

My self ive played in FA7 and will likely be the first race eliminated in that game, but i cant really say who ranks where for anyone else.

Edit- More questions Razz

Hey, I have one question- I see the version is 2.6f, and I have read that 2.6f and 2.7f are compatible. The thing is though, that I tried out both versions and there are major differences.. for example, the 2.6f fuel mizer is great, but in 2.7f it really got nerfed and isn't nearly as awesome, also my 2.7f has more stuff, like advanced biotic armor that isn't in 2.6f.. so clearly these aren't compatible.

short question is, which version do you guys use?

First post says 2.6JRC4 or 2.7JRC3 (German) which should be found here at this link.

I'm guessing many cool things got nerfed to better balance the game. Sherlock

The Fuel Mizer is still wonderful, though. Deal

Where exactly did you get these two versions? There is no reference to "advanced biotic armor" in the official release notes for any version that I can find.

ETA: I did find one in the Viper mod tho, but that is edited by StarEd which only works on Stars! versions 2.6 and 2.7 I and J only.

It's this version: http://www.starsfaq.com/files/stars27jrc3-patched.rar

It also has a super small "fighter" hull that carries no fuel, as well a lot more tech dependencies between components. Originally, I thought this was the latest version, so I asked.

well poo...that's actually my mistake..and is err... years old. That *is* the Viper mod (I compared the files)...and I can see it in the wiki backups from 2009..its in the downloads directory(still Confused), but not in the wiki because well..its not supposed to be there.. Sorry bout that.. I have emailed people to get them(@ wiki+faq) removed.

On the brighter side...as you say, the Viper mod is quite fun to play..perhaps you could host/play a game of that? (tho you won't be able to use AH for that)

ETA: removed link

Gah. I've been moving out for a few days, so I come back and the thread's flooded.

Umm, I was originally planning to just use the latest version of stars, but I don't even know what that is.

yeah, I was planning to make CA just banned across the board.

Is everyone ok with using 2.7jrc3?

I don't actually know the differences

so with amadeus, we are now at 7 players and just need one more. Fortythree isn't playing, right? or do you want to?

Also, I don't have anyone to check the races yet.

I was determining skill ranks myself, but I think it's better just to have a hard and fast rule. 2 games completed. Adv. Beginner.
Less = beginner

3 games completed = intermediate

So.. to continue hijacking the thread, because of the big fuel mizer nerf, the mod forces you to use the engines in the beginning which everyone (I assume) usually skips. Many components have tech requirements from three or even four branches which slows down the tech pace.

the question is, if it's possible to mod the game, wouldn't it be possible to update the interface and map? Wouldn't modding be more efficient than recreating the game from scratch?

Count me in. It's clear from my play in FA7 I'm pretty poor in multi-player games, so I should fit in well with those playing their first game!

I played a lot a while back, but have been out for about 6 or 7 years. Lost all my race files back then, so I am pretty much a beginner.

I would like to play, or if you are full put me down as first replacement. I would even take a drop out position after the game has started.

Tweaking the game's data tables is a lot easier than rebuilding the GUI. Shocked
