Lots of information around already.. but where can I get the break up of the levels? *edit - updated question location*

Quote:

http://starsautohost.org/sahforum/index.php?t=help_index& ;amp ;section=boardusage
The ranks are:
Commander 1000+ points
Lt. Commander 750
Lieutenant 500
Lt. Junior Grade 380
Ensign 310
Cadet (4 lvls) 205-309
-
Warrant Officer (4 lvls) 115-204
Petty Officer (6 lvls) 40-114
Crewman (3 lvls) 4-39
-
Civilian 0-3
Rank is no longer based on number of posts. It is based on the following:
1. Staying on the subject of the topic or message replied to.
2. Helpfulness in tutoring, answering questions, strategies, etc.
3. Quality of data in post.
Points are assigned by me (Ron) and range from 0 to 5 per post.

Commander
Lt. Commander
Lieutenant
Lt. Junior Grade
Ensign
Cadet (4 levels)
>Petty Officer (3 levels)
Specialist (3 levels)
Crewman (3 levels)

Didn't realise the forums have a quality ranking system till I actually started reading up on it.
Is it still done like that (It's a 2002 post) and doesn't that take a lot of time for Ron to assigns points for each new post? This question was asked in
http://starsautohost.org/sahforum/index.php?t=msg&th=6#m sg_num_6
but I didn't find it's answer.

If yes, I'm honored that my rank was upgraded Smile
I am looking forward to being a Cadet (rank 10).

The ranking's confusing to someone who has no idea though.
I don't know if I'm rank 7, 8 or 9.
Found two posts in the plethora of related threads here, that link to external sites... but they are dead links.

http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Starfleet_ranks seems relevant, but I can't find figure out where a warrant officer stands.
What 3 ranks are there for petty officer?
I guess it's petty officer (7), chief petty officer(8)and then warrant officer(9)?
But then I saw a officer cadet 2nd year.. and a chief warrant officer 3 (so that has levels too??)

Any place where I can find the exact merging of the 2 ranking systems done by Ron, for SAH?

Quote:

Crewman and up through Chief Warrent Officer III are basically not officers. I wanted to let users work on up through the ranks to become officers.

I've seen some pretty priceless threads in some of the private game forums. Altruist's posts in the FA forums, for eg.

Other related threads to the forum ranking.

Yes, still done that way, only by me, and yes, it takes a lot of time. Which is why, unfortunately, there are hundreds of posts that I have not assigned rank points to yet. Every now and then I'll take an hour and assign rank points to old posts.

Senior Chief Petty Officer is, I believe, rank 9. Civilian is rank 1. You have 5 more ranks to go through before reaching Cadet rank.

I've updated the ranks a bit, removed Civilian and replaced it with Crewman Recruit, then adjusted the other Crewman rank titles.

wOOt 1 A senior chief petty officer could be viewed as the enlisted equivalent of a commander.

On topic, for easy reference..

No matter how high in rank an enlisted noncommissioned officer rises, a fully commissioned officer always outranks him. A mere Ensign outranks a Master Chief Petty Officer, even though the master chief may be a twenty-year veteran of Starfleet.

15. Ensign. (After 4 years of cadet training)
Commissioned officers attend four years at Starfleet Academy
(15) Cadet - would be 4 years in training, so shouldn't be counted, right?

14.Chief Warrant Officer (4Grade)
13.Chief Warrant Officer (3Grade)
12.Chief Warrant Officer (2Grade)
11.Warrant Officer

10.Master Chief Petty Officer
9. Senior Chief Petty Officer
8. Chief Petty Officer

7. Petty Officer (3C)
6. Petty Officer (2C)
5. Petty Officer (1C)

4. Crewman 1st Class
3. Crewman 2nd Class
2. Crewman 3rd Class
1. Recruit

I'll add the command structure, when I read more articles over the weekend (or if Ron gives me a nice link for that too Smile ).

Ron, just wondering why don't you use cadets' signs listed here?
They seems to be the same style as ones used for others ranks.

As I think I've mentioned elsewhere, the ranks of Captain and above are reserved for Stars! AutoHost staff, and VIPs in the Stars! community.

I was wondering about current fleet structure from rankings standpoint. Unfortunately this list doesn't contain rank column, so, by using a simple http requester, I got a list of all SAH users sorted by rank - resulted ranks.htm can be downloaded here if someone is interested. Sorry, but this is a temporary url (don't know how to share this file in a better way).

In short currently there are:

1123 Crewmans (4 levels)
57 Petty Officers (6 levels)
25 Warrant Officers (4 levels)
17 - Cadets (4 levels)
1 - Ensign
7 - Lt. Junior Grade
5 - Lieutenant
4 - Lt. Commander
8 - Commander
1 - Commodore
1 - Vice Admiral
1 - Admiral
3 - Ambassadors
3 - Mare Crisium Staff

Edit: Thanks to gible, awful link was replaced by dropboxed one. Smile

That would be a nice addition to have !! A one year gap would retire you.
But it should revert back to the last rating, once a post is made.

Could Ron, pretty please, make such a rank, if the coding isn't too messy to implement?

Could you explain that again please?
One year of logging in last? or One year of no posting?

I noticed that you haven't retired a number of people, who couldn't have posted in the past 1 year.

Andre (Co-creator.. never posted)
Mare Crisium Staff.. have they posted?

Well, you are right, there are several ppls who have never posts and also several who have posted in the area of the forum, which I cannot access, so in the players' profile (for example here) you will see "You do not have appropriate permissions needed to see this topic." instead of last post date. In these cases I didn't treat accounts as retired.

Seems like classified would fit the best here.

nmid wrote

Tecnically it just requests pages like this one for each of the SAH accounts. So far there are about 1500 accounts, so it does 1500 requests, than it parse received html page and gets account name, rank, sign url, last post date. As of bandwidth - according to NetLimiter - httptest.exe requests 2MB of data.

Except that classified is what everyone would become, whose last post is in "Private Forums for games."

I suppose Ron would have to temporarily turn off the log-in requirement on the that forum for you to get complete data on all users last posts that are there.

On the other hand, some last posts show up for me without logging in, but they are not "retired" on the list that I saw.

OK, the problem was with those who have an avatar or who registered, but never posted. So, now it's fixed (except those whos' last post is classified).

Ooooh! Data mining, how cool!

Very nice, and I thank you, since I didn't want to go through all of them myself just to remove all the 'SAH Game Host' tags. (I stopped using those years ago as they were too much work to add then take away after game was done.)
