I would like to get this game started. So let's set a deadline for teams of this Friday. Please have all your teams & teammates figured out by then.

Then assuming we have final teams on Friday, we will set a deadline for races at that time.

Thanks,
David

Hi All,

I have a potential team mate, we're figuring out if timezones and schedules will work and then we have to agree on races etc, but I think we should be able to submit race files by the end of the weekend.

However, he classifies himself as a beginner, so I would like you all to state any objections before we commit ourselves. I'm fine with it, but if any of you think that it will harm the game, I'll respect that and I am sure he will as well.

Cheers, Rolf.

I don't have a problem with your partner being a beginner. You will have to carry a lot of the load, reviewing his turns etc. This is actually one type of intermediate game that a beginner can join and not "harm" the game as they have an ally from day one that they can rely on for help.

That is my 2 cents.

David

My partner Orange may not be able to play after all. Is there anyone else who is interested in playing?

We also need to think about the density we want for this game. Medium dense is 360 planets, or 22.5 planets per player in a 16 player game. Medium packed is 33.75 planets per player with 16 players. That is a pretty big difference, so place your votes for density.

If this ends up with 7 teams, then I think it should be medium dense. That is what the first game had and seemed to be a good amount.

With 7 dense was tight, but worked fine. With 8, I think I would prefer packed.

Ok, we have some revised teams. They are:

ManicLurch / rolfverberg
Tabini / Siltano
Gianluca /Ccmaster
maxfra / moronz
Mac1 / Skandal
akaduda / baide

Unless I missed something, that is 6 teams. In a medium dense that is 30 planets per player. Unless someone objects, I suggest that we make this final (teams & universe) and start creating race files.

Please email races files to Donjon. donjon1#at#gmail#dot#com

Do not send races files to me, I am playing. Someone sent me races files by pm, I have deleted that message. Email them to Donjon at the address listed above.

Thanks,
David

One last question before I turn in my race. This will effect my design. Last game 3 enemy HW's were closer to me than my partners HW. And 2 of those enemy HW's were basically 100ly closer than my partners HW.

Can the spacing be a little closer this game? that really affected us, as we thought we would start closer than nearly 400ly.

Hi ,

last game setup the enemy should be 270Lj -320Lj away from your HW. So if you say you have them 100LJ to close but calculated with 400LJ you are fine.

Also by remaping the HW has to be moved. So it could be that they are a little bit closer.

And for all out there I had only 182Lj to my enemies Razz That was a little bit too close for my AR Razz

No. What I am saying is there were 3 enemy HW's closer than my partners HW. Partners HW was much further than 320ly. Whoever set up the game could have chosen 1 of the 3 enemy HW's to be my partners HW, but chose one that was even further than your 270-320 range. Made no sense to me. So, will partners be placed a reasonable distance apart this game? (200-300ly)

I agree. The universe was poorly spaced.

The question I am asking has direct bearing on the prop items I choose. An answer to this would be nice.

This game was hard to set up. Especially two teams, the one on the easternmost position on the map, and the westernmost position on the map.

With all remapping one has to consider you only have a few options to choose...

You may select to swap homeworlds between two players, and/or you may move a homeworld along the north/south axis of the homeworld's position.

Usually I end up having weigh all the teams on proximity to an enemy and of course their partner and try to make sure all teams have a similar challenge/team rating.

Likely all players will discover that they have enemies closer than their partner. All players teams indicate a one dimensional line connecting the two stars. Obviously when working in two dimensional space there are likely to be vertices of other teams which are closer.

Expect it!

BTW: change mail address to donjon#at#shc#dot#edu#dot#bz...
gmail addy is not quite so convenient right now.

donjon

Thanks Donjon for your explanation and for doing the work to set this up. I suppose we just need to be prepared for the event that we might have enemies closer than our partner.

Since we have our answer, lets now prepare our races. Let's get races to Donjon as soon as we can so I don't have to set a formal deadline.

Thanks,
David
