Pure Vanilla Mayhem?
Tiny, Packed, Distant, ACC BBS, 12-16 Players
Rules: Don't cheat (standard disclaimers, split fleet, min dmg, repair after gating, chaff excepted)
I was thinking of calling it "Knife Fight in a Phone Box".
Ranked?

Tiny, packed, 12-16 players...

I wonder what type of race would do best there, 1WW or relatively wide hab?

That would of course depend on what the other players choose, but I don't think a HP would have time to build up resources on colonies.

I am starting in another game pretty soon, so I won't be playing in this one, I don't have time for two games at the same time, at least not late in the game.

Oil can burn on water, and strangle sea gulls, and poison fish. Cheers I like the analogy.

I wont be playing, just want to host another game. Toof

Some folks have complained Furious that there haven't been any vanilla games since Waterloo, and I see too many games based on "it's the economy..." sit and spin shenanigans. Lurking

I just wonder what would happen New idea if I gave a room full of six year olds a dodgy copy of Excel from the 90s, and a bunch of rusty box knives. Thumbsup 2

It is a sad sad thing when every player survives to the game's end. Sleeping

What do you mean exactly by "pure vanilla"?

From what I know, the game is not playable on Autohost short of using 2.6 or 2.7. Because of this, the game cannot be played in another way than with the tools we already have...

On the other hand, I understand that you may simply mean "normal game without racial restriction"... But I've seen plenty of those games so far. In fact, that is the kind of game I like to play.

So that leads me to asking, maybe the problem rely on the fact that there is simply not many new games starting, period?

I think 1WW would be almost mandatory. For sure, there will be quite a few - which means 1WW habs suddenly aren't quite as limiting as usual (nice green homeworlds to conquer.)

I suppose a more conventional race with left shifted habs might do alright as a 'metagame' play - making the presumption most races will be right shifted 1WW races, thus your worlds would be deep red to most players. But I think you'd just be delaying your defeat (by the 1WW that conquers the most other 1WW races.)

This is presuming no diplomacy... A game this small would hinge dramatically on diplomacy, if it's available.

I could go another round of this.

Hopefully this time I won't get my ass handed to me on a plate.

gible's suggestion sounds fun to me. It's winter here and I can use some heated games to play in and keep me warm Smile

Cheers, Rolf.

I'm interested in playing, though the experience rule in Gibles 2003 game link would make me take AR and I don't think I'd do that in a tiny dense galaxy.

Yeah... the link was just to point out that tiny+many players is a viable (and fun!) game.

I wouldn't take AR is this either. IIRC the last game was one by an SD... it was played during an SD fad, and they're far from weak.

The only specific rules I'd really like to see from QAR are no AccBBS & no PP.

Some PRT levelling wouldn't go astray either. (-200 for SD Wink)

Come to think of it, primitive races could be amusing... Very Happy

I might be interested, a tiny game wouldn't take too much MM time and Glacier 4 is MM-light so far anyway.

Hi!

I too am interested.

I'd also vote for some limitations for SD (e.g. 80 leftover points to defenses) and JoaT (70 leftover points to defenses, no NAS) and for a limited diplomacy: all enemies, no NAPs, no alliances and no ship and tech trade.

BR, Iztok

I'd very much like to avoid diplomacy limits other than single race victory.

I am happy to host the kind of game people want to play (non-playing host).

Please answer:
What is your timezone?
Play weekends?
Single player victory or no diplomacy at all?
Race restrictions/Balancing or Natural?

I was thinking the fewer rules the better, but I will leave it to you.

I am interested to play in a new single victory game, specially a fast playing, no diplomacy one.

Eastern US (GMT -5)
Weekends OK
Single player victory, no diplomacy
No real preference for balancing

Cheers, Rolf.

Pacific time (gmt-8)
Weekends ok
Single victory, diplomacy fine
Penalty 100pts or so for JoaT and SD, no NAS for JoaT
Possibly ban IFE to keep people from just zipping around as they please

Diplo off (even if you "signed" e.g. a NAP, it's not valid!) - all enemies
Trade off
Race restrictions on.

BR, Iztok

Pacific Time (GMT +8?)
Weekends: Off
Single Player Victory by acclamation
Comm: On
Diplomacy: On (this is important to me, I'll likely not play if diplomacy is off - Mind you in my mind NAPs etc. are always breakable at the discretion of the players that are willing to take the heat for doing so.)
Trade restrictions: Off
Race restrictions: No PP

Balls. Well there will have to be some compromise here. I will post something tentative in a few hours.

lol...what did you expect?

My advice...review the requests then pick whatever you feel like and stick to it. Very Happy (ie don't be tentative) Most of the stuff requested won't be a deal breaker...just a preference.
