A friend of mine sent me a Stars Zip file a couple of years ago when I first started to run the full game. He supplied me with a serial number and I didn't think anything of it, it works fine. Now however I realise this may have been a generated/hacked number.

I have received a legitimate number from Ron and want my Stars game to be associated with this number now so I can play multiplayer.

This explains why it didnt ask me for a serial when I recently downloaded 2.6. Can someone explain how to 'use' my new number?

Sorry for my naivety but I hope you guys realise I am trying to make amends.

Regards,

EDIT: Sorry wrong forum I think

Open your c:\windows\stars.ini file.

Find the line that has GlobalSettings= and delete everything on that line after the equals sign.

Save the file, and run stars.exe. It will ask for the serial number.

Don't worry about it.

The simplier way to have the game to ask you about your registration code is to delete the STARS! configuration file.

If you are running XP or any lower version of Windows, it should be located in your c:\Windows directory. Probably under the name of STARS.ini.

If that don't work then you will need to update your version as it is likely cracked as you thought. You can find all versions, including older versions, on the Wiki.

Version 2.7 has little sound in combat too, BTW. If you have to update you might be interested by that.

Note that if you delete your stars.ini file, you'll lose any default orders you have saved.
