But isnt 2480 quite early to stop already?
I dont know much about anything ofc but those 2 games i played (offline with friends) lasted a lot longer.
Dont get me wrong, i will happily follow, it just surprises me.

Depends, if there is furious fighting from the start the game might end even sooner. Though with newbies that's usually not the case, those games indeed tend to last longer.
Also depends on size, small will probably be over in 2480, medium no, if there are a lot of defensive players (newbies usually are) than some might not have even fought eachother, this could even be won by a race build to get most resources in 2480 and win by points ...
Maybe victory by vote would make more sense, if not everyone agrees game goes on. That said, a fixed end year changes the game and for newbies it would be good so they can move on to the next game with their new experience.
Edit: disclaimer Newbies might be more agressive than when I started. Altruist being a good example.

I need to be realistic about the commitment I am making. In some games it has taken five or even six months to get to 2480. If the majority of players choose to slow down the schedule to less than five gens/week, a few players may begin to get bored right around 2480. I am hoping that public player scores at 2450 will help keep up the pace to the very end, and

My apologies all. There is a delay due to my inexperience hosting with SAH.
It looks like we may have an eighth player. If so, the settings will not change (still medium with normal density).
You are welcome to take this time to do a bit more testing and race optimization. I will accept revised race files up to the time Ron is ready for the game files. There are many resources available in the Home World Forum (I think the fledgling admiral threads are particularly valuable). Check out the wiki too and maybe say high on the ##stars! irc channel.
Unless advised otherwise, I will assume you want turn files sent to the email addresses on record. I will be sending group mailings during the game, so please let me know if you prefer to have your address kept private.
Some of you have submitted races without passwords, and while not necessary, I would advise that you reconsider. Also, if you change your password, notify me before turn submission. I am sure none of you will cheat, but I will be keeping an eye out for it in case a dispute arises.
Before we begin, are you opposed to weekend turn generation?
I think daily turns until at least 2430 would be best. Will anyone need a break for forthcoming holiday? There is no trouble putting the game on hold (with adequate notice), but I'd rather avoid regens.
Again, my apologies for the delay. Happy testing.

lord_of_chaos wrote on Sun, 07 November 2010 21:54 | I'm not sure that i can do weekend turns, but i may try at the beginning, later in game propably i can't due to my familly duties. Weekend tunrs should be generated only when all files will be up.

I know some folk only play at work and that is fine. Family should be first priority.
I will set the game so that once all turns are submitted, AH will *automatically* generate the next turn. This means (if experience serves) you are likely to reach 2430 well before 30 calendar days, as those first few turns play very quickly. But it will also *force* generate turns based on a daily Monday through Friday schedule, meaning (if you are not ahead of schedule)turns will generate even if some players fail to submit there file. The trick here will be to keep it from *force* generating a turn too soon after *automatically* generating a turn. This has been an occasional trouble for some hosts, so I will watch it carefully.
A player has requested to have off the 25th & 26th of November. I am guessing that to be about a week into the game. It will give the rest of you some time to review your scouting data, prepare to que up some repeating orders, maybe even talk some trash (aka diplomacy). Let me know if anyone else is scheduling holiday.
Players, would you like a private game forum here at HWF? Or a private IRC channel?
