Is it time for a New IROC? |

Hi People,
Just wondering...
Jfeeple ran the IROC series a few years ago (1999-2002).
Generally it is accepted that is was a good series.
I was thinking that it might be a bit more interesting if all planets are habitable (at say 30% value, terraformable to 100%.)
IROC means all players get exactly the same race, with the exception of name and emblem. The game runs for 150 turns and the winner is determined by score or vote. You can ally but alliances cannot win.
What do you think?
regards,
les

I was thinking more along the lines of having less than 16 players in the small universe - like 8 or 10.

I agree, it doesn't need to be some super great race design. It would be nice if it didn't have too many drawbacks though with LRT's. I would certainly prefer NOT to be playing with cheap engines for instance.

Position... this could be alleviated by pushing all homeworlds to the edges (which I can do )

This would still have an impact, as a square is not quite fair. It would be better to remap the universe into a circle shape, and then locate all the races onto the edges.
You could even make the victory conditions different, if you made the center a standalone patch of stars, with a ~50ly distance from the outer "band" of stars. Easily done with the same utility. Winner is declared when 1 player has all the inner stars colonized...

Reminds me of Rings.
I don't think the universe should be remapped. I just wanted to point out after removing a bad hab draw the position in the universe would be the next "unfair" factor ...
If you remap it indeed alters the concept ... a bit.

It seemed Coyote had put together some "reasoned" substandard races together for his last game (LIES).
I thought those were going to be published, anyone feels like sharing? Not in this thread but the game stories thread.

It's too bad I lost all the game info in a hdd failure. I'll be willing to throw together a race though!
Try this: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q2HZXQ3G
IS race, wacky mine settings so you'll want to engage in non-obrm remote mining.

I like the idea. I may try if universe is small or medium. So waiting for detailed game conditions.
