Just an update to say that I've hacked the port issue a bit..the english wiki is now accessable at http://wiki.gible.net/index.php (ie without the :2080) - but not without the index.php

Unfortunately because I've essentially mirrored the wiki through my personal site it only works once and the French and Polish wikis are stuck with the suffix until its properly fixed (and the english wiki is still there also) but at least all the various (english) links around will now work easily.

Don't kow why I didn't think of this months ago really Confused

Yeah...its not a perfect fix...for uploading new image versions at least you'll need to use the :2080 address.

I'm not certain what will/won't work. General browsing/editing is definitely fine. But use 2080 for image uploads until I fix it properly... I have an idea how to do that Smile

New IP address is 121.98.144.59 for people who want to hack their hosts file and not wait for the new DNS to propagate.

Nope...its definately right. I agree something is off tho.
http://wiki.gible.net:2080/index.php appears to be ok...as is www.gible.net just not http://wiki.gible.net/index.php

I suggest removing your index.html... it seems to take precedence over your index.php Smile

'llo Smile

I am happy to announce that Stars!wiki has a new home(again). The new address is http://wiki.starsautohost.org

Thanx Ron! Not Worthy

Laughing

In all seriousness, when Yanni let me know that he was ending hosting, I offered it to Ron and he didn't even pause to say yes - he just started organising it. Stars!wiki was born here and after just over 5 years of running it, with all the headaches I've had, I kinda feel like the wiki is coming home. So I'd like to take this moment to personally thank Ron for his efforts and 14 Shocked years of Stars! Autohost.

On the practical side...

  • I'm still going to administer/maintain the wiki
  • I have strong-armed Ron into creating a wiki acount, and promoted both Ron and Micha to Administrators (along with myself and Staz)
  • New user accounts have been locked down again, so you'll need to contact an admin(here at HWF) to create an account for you.
  • The French and Polish wikis have not been migrated, instead the 5 French pages have been imported into the (English) wiki and the inter-language links point to their new pages.

Sometime soon I'll set up permanent redirects to the new address.

Gible,
I added strike-through to http://wiki.starsautohost.org/wiki/Related_Websites , for seemingly dead sites. I wanted to double check before moving them to the graveyard.

Good news, I found and added another Français Stars forum to the list.

Thanx Smile I was about to say "Go for it" but it just occurs that what you've done is probably better - gives me (and others?) to see if I have an archive to put up for them. Smile

You might want to check the Yakimora links list too, tho after a brief look, some of those are listed in the SNG:Websites list rather than related websites lists.

Also...dammit I remember that site. :/

Not sure...I can't get any maps to appear elsewhere either. Unless something has changed in the back end with the new SAH stuff, my best guess is that it may relate to the removal of the maps widgets..tho that doesn't seem to fit really...just a timing thing.

I can confirm that its not even appearing in the html source code Surprised

Looks like version 2 of Google maps has been deprecated...
That means a recode is required Smile

That will be a problem for more than just us then as we are using the latest version of the map extension.

I don't usually allow javascript from Google or Yahoo or whatever. Same for Flash. This means that I never see that map, it is only a big square for me in the middle of the screen.

So I guess what I am trying to say is that it doesn't seem to be the most interesting tool anyways, at least for me.

Would there not be a more efficient way of repertoring where players live? I doubt that players move often to other countries anyways... This kind of database would stay valid for a very long time.

Probably. It was never really designed to be a database of player locations...just something fun to add to the community..the original map was embedded from Frappr..a service which has since died..and had 50+ players on it (tho some like Sally managed to be in multiple places - countries! - at once)

In any case it occurred to me today that there's likely some error being generated that isn't being made public...and I don't have code access anymore...so its largely in Ron's hand atm. Possibly its caused by his recent back-end changes..no idea.

One of the things I've wanted to include in the wiki is some sort or categorisational entrance (alongside the FAQ/search etc entrances)...ala Portals at Wikipedia or the Synopsis of Categories at the front of good thesauruses(well...mine)...and also to provide a structured organisation of the wiki. You can see the beginings of this in the Main Entry Points wotsit on the main page and this old version of the main page, but its never really come together. I thought, due to my colossal lack of organisational skills, but after doing a bit of research ... I realise that its not just me(for once).

After 3 years I think I may have (mostly) nailed it. Stars!wiki Structure/organisation - Entry mechanisms, Structure mechanisms
