Faster Games

Hi All o/

I'm new to the forum/community and find myself wondering if people ever play faster games in longer sessions? i.e. spending a few longer sessions on a single game (I know waiting for other people to micromanage can be a nightmare, but I'm sure reasonable time limits could be applied - perhaps getting longer as the game progressed and people had more tasks to accomplish each turn)

It's proven to be very hard to convince many real life friends to dedicate anytime to learning to play stars, let alone play against me at it for any prolongued period of time; I'm finding the whole experience most unsatisfying Razz

Especially as I can see the potential stars has for some really epic multiplayer encounters.

As you can probably tell from this post I am aching for a game.. any takers .. ? Head to head or multiplayer, its all cool- would just need to dig my disc out and reinstall. My ideal would be for there to be a few more people out there with too much time on their hands at the moment, also wanting some epic stars! sessions Razz

The duelling club sub forum is a good place to try to find people up for playing a number of turns in each session. Even fast duels tend to take a week or so to play out though...

I think there's a small community of players on IRC somewhere who still play 'blitz' stars (very short turns, whole game played out in a single session) but I never tried that.

Most of the games I've played would certainly count as epic encounters.... But played out over months.

cheers for the reply & the advice ^^ I'm not averse to the epics spanning months, just also crave some faster tactical/startegic interplay now and then, especially with being a relative nub in the multiplayer arena, more games in shorter time span = faster learning Very Happy

or should do Razz

I suppose it all depends how badly you are outmatched

Actually i would like to play such game sometime, with all people on irc (etc) making quick diplomacy Smile

and some turn time limits.
I know it becomes less strategy game, but still something a bit diffirent could be fun.

Blitz games are alot of fun and very different from normal stars!. A few things I remember specifically (Although this is some years back) Theres almost no diplomacy as such, everyone set to enemy. First couple of turn generations is multiple turn generations (Like 5 or 10 turns per gen. Then it slows down. Usually it's like a duel with only 2 people but I have played quite a few with 3 or more players. Turns are about 10min each. 1ww(1 world wonder) work very well as race designs go. AR's do NOT do very well Rolling Eyes

HE's I think also do very well.

Best place to go would be the IRC although I know they changed servers a while back (I THINK) so hopefully someone here can point you in the right directions.
