Game name: All Us ARs..

AR only game for 4 or 6-7 players (35-40 planets per player), starting about 14th of June. For 4 players it will be in a small dense uni, for 6-7 small packed. If both starting Iron and Germ MCs will be 30, will the neutral host (looking for one Smile ) regen the game.

Victory conditions:
Single-victory with highest score at 2520 or earlier with remaining players' consensus.

Game parameters:
- Max Minerals off
- Slow tech off
- AccBBS off Exclamation
- Random events ON
- Public scores off
- Galaxy clumping off

Standard cheats disclaimer
Only split-fleet-dodge, repair-after-gating and chaff is allowed. Oh BTW the "Cheap Starbase" is explicitely allowed Wink .
In disputed cases has game host the final word and can apply any punishment he deems fit. Twisted Evil

Limitations:
About the only limitation I'd like to set, would be WRT player skill with an AR:
  • All candidate players are required to submit to the neutral game host a game, where they got over 20k @ 2450 (AccBBC start, no MaxMin, alone in small packed uni) with his/her "for-this-game" AR race. If a candidate is unable to achieve that, he's not welcome.
  • Non-mandatory Exclamation handicap: leftover RW points WRT candidate's AR experience, up to 80 RW points left for multiple victories with the AR.
BTW I have neither won, nor even finished any PBEM game with an AR, but IMO I know ARs well enough to leave 50 RW points.

Desired turn schedule:
5-7 turns per week (or faster, if all players would already submit their turns) to about turn 30, thereafter any player could request a slow-down to 3 turns/week. One "game-on-hold" of 1 week for each player. Players' consensus for longer breaks. Player missing 2 turns without notice would set game to hold, until replacement is found, or players' consensus to continue.

Player relations:
- All set to enemies
- No alliances
- No tech trading

orangered text marks changes to original game anouncement

I'm in!

I thought I had my race sorted out until I saw the AccBBS off bit (& cheap starbase allowed). I reckon I should retest that tho now.

I'm hoping to have my daughter (who I haven't seen for 5 years) up from Melbourne on the June long w/end. She'll hopefully be in Sydney from Thu June 10 - Mon June 14 so, if the game starts on June 10, I may have an opportunity to submit turns but I'm not sure.

I would prefer the game to start on either June 7 so I can get my scouts out & about first before setting up a multiple gen turn or for it to start on June 14.

I prefer the tech trading option.

Edit: The 20k res requirment - you said must be achieve in a game which, to me means against other players, but I think you are including tests yeah?

Oh, I've never played with it allowed. Better to look it up to remember how it works.

Sorry, this was a joke Very Happy . AR is the only race that can't use that trick, because for it to work, ther must not be an orbital present.

2 reasons for it:
1) to delay a bit he iron crunch and
2) to allow a bit more race diversity. With AccBBS "on", crowding hits very fast, so "high" PGR is not desired. But with only 25k starting pop, many settings become more viable...

Count me in, please.

My votes would be all enemies, no communication, no tech trading.

I would prefer AccBBS on, I think high-PGR ARs are viable enough. If a player wants to accept the possibility of early crowding, let them.

I have gotten good test results with AR, but still not been confident enough to play them in a game. This would be a good game in which to try them out.

Regarding AlexTheGreat, I wouldn't have any problem with delaying the start a few extra days.

I wouldn't recommend this except the usage of the leftover points is part of your strat. You have already established quite a levelled playerfield due to the expected 20k at 2450 marge. No further penalties or boni should be needed.

Mmmh?
Why shouldn't you be able to use the cheap starbase trick as an AR when building a Dock, Starbase, Ultra or Deathstar?

And if asked I'd rather not be in favour of allowing it.

ARs can't use it because they live on their bases - i.e. There must always be a base.

The cheap starbase cheat works by building a base shell to, say, 99% in turn 1, then loading it up with goodies & completing it in turn 2. Due to a bug you only pay the remaining 1% cost of the fully laden base. It also only works if you're building a new base where none existed before (otherwise it would be regarded as an upgrade).

I agree with Marduk. I think AccBBS should be on. However, I'll go along with whatever.

I have no opinion about AccBBS, i never played AR without it before. Maybe it actually allows more race diversity. I need to make testes first.

Please count me in as well.

Can have a race in shortly after the neutral host is announced.

For rules, my votes would be similar to many others:

- All set to enemies
- Single winner declared
- No alliances
- No tech trading
- No private communication before or during game

I have a race with 20k testbed, will do some tweaking still.

I abstain from voting on diplomacy restrictions (unrestricted and all enemies/no communication are both fine for me).

By my count we have 8 interested people!
Just a thought, but we could have 2 games of 4...
might also solve the problem of how to get someone to check races and setup the universe. (get someone from the other game ...)
Just a thought.

You'd probably want to consider banning the "kill starbase" battle order.

Hi!

Damn! I've completely missed marduk's "application". Embarassed I appologize.

So what are we going to do? One solution would be 2 games of 4 players in small dense. That would make both games a bit slower, but would not alter the number of starting planets per player so drastically, than 8 players in small packed uni. Would also allow even more players to get in the game (but would need to wait for 6th if another player would apply), and maybe get us a race "checker" and a game host, that's obviously quite hard to come around nowadays. Smile

Another thing that usually has big impact on the game is the "kill starbase" battle order, but since we'll all be playing ARs, we'd all be under the same bane. I'd like to hear your voice on this issue. So please cast your vote for:
- Split game in 2
- Ban "kill SB"

Will update second post with the results. I vote for split game, and have no opinion on the ban - either way is fine with me.

I'm fine with splitting the game. I could also host one game if you like. We could even have a "Championship" game afterwards (top 2 players from each game).

IMO there is no need to ban "kill starbase".

I have a solution. I've been wondering if I should be in this anyway, what with the no AccBBS and my personal best being over 60k by 2450 in small packed even with building semi-reasonable numbers of warships (19% PGR seems to work best for me). I could be the host for this game and then we'd be back to seven players.

I am guessing that this would be a pretty simple game to host; once setup was done I would just have to make sure to check the game page and my email fairly often in case of problems. One schedule change six-plus weeks in shouldn't be a big deal, and I've noticed that AutoHost has not been having any trouble lately. I have been wanting to host a game anyway and this would be a good one for it.

I would argue against banning Kill Starbase orders for much the same reason I would prefer an AccBBS start: to make this game more like a normal one, and so be better preparation for playing an AR. Having all races be AR makes it easier since everyone else will be subject to pretty much the same starting limitations, that should be enough.

MUST the game file to prove 20k the exact race design used later in the game? I am still tweaking my race. But I can send in a proved 20k-AR-game any time.

It doesn't say it must be the same. My own plan had been to send in a completely different one that only got in the 20-25k range.

I vote for "no starbase killing", in late game its IMO far too easy to suicide kill a death star and we won't have so many of them.

Since seeing post I have been practising playing AR.

Have finally managed to get 22k+ by 2450 (although didn't manage last 10 turns) using a variation of one of Kotk's races with 16% PGR and no IFE. Not sure if such a race would be good enough for the cut and thrust of this game so will have to develop a QS AR Laughing

So would like to put my name in the hat for game now that I know I can make the grade.

Now have to see if I can make 60k with a 19% PGR as has been advertised as possible Smile

I tried to say that with the "with his/her 'for-this-game' AR race" phrase. OFC you can submit "a proof" with a different race, but the catch is the test race could be anything, even unplayable (like +OBRM) one. I wanted to make a candidate think in playability terms, not max_resources @ 2450 terms.

Quote:

splitting the game: rather not, I am in favour of using small packed for upto 9 players
9 players for 240 stars would be 27 planets per player. I announced this game with 35-40 planets per player with intention to give everyone some "room" to grow in relative peace for some turns. If I'd like to have crowded wild-knife-fighting game I wouldn't say AR-only. Wink

It looks like we have another player candidate goober. That makes us 9, so I'll have to split us in two games, Marduk hosting one, and me another. This way we could also have one with AccBBS ON and another with AccBBS OFF. Am going to rearrange players's list in second post accordingly. Please let me know if it's OK with you.

BR, Iztok
