I have found the CD, reinstalled, upgraded and am playing a few race files to try and get back into the game.

I'm afraid "Anything goes" will probably not have another vacant slot - but one never knows...

Sorry to hear about that mate. Things are not too hot in Europe either. And the older you get the harder it is to find decent work. The other down-side is that you know as the last "in" you are probably going to be the first "out" when redundancies come around Sad

Luckily in Germany the government reacted fairly quickly to the depression and got up a system that instead of making people redundant, the companies can put them on short hours and 65% of the wages we lose are compensated by the social services. I have been on "short hours" for the whole of this year but luckily we have not had any redundancies. Still means a loss of about 200 Euros a month (about 400 NZD) with no bonuses etc. But I still have my job. Also luckily, none of our major customers have gone bust either, so we still have the customer base, just at reduced sales for now.

My old fella got made redundant late on in his working life and I know how bad things got for him, he ended up driving taxi's and doing cleaning jobs before he got a break and became an inspector in the national bus company. Still worked until he was 70 as they had accumulated a lot of debt in that time.

Might I inquire whether you were a merchant-marine or a navy "Navy Man"?

I used to sail off the USS McInerney (FFG-8) back in the '80s myself. (bosun mate)

So I'm always happy to meet other veterans of the sea, and if they were just merchant-marine or Coast Guard, or not even my country, I'm still happy. The enemy is that deep-blue lady I've never been able to get out of my blood-stream, not the other sailors, not even in war.

I swear, she's like crack, the Ocean is.

Royal New Zealand Navy.

I was a marine fitter (snipe in your navy as I remember) and yes would love to be back at sea again, closest I get these days is the occasional fishing trip.

Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Wayne. Can't get anything done on a modern ship without engineers. And frankly, I wouldn't have wanted the job, not enough time abovedecks for my taste. So I think I'll give you credit for the tougher job if you don't mind.

Wish I could say I got out to the sea more myself. And living in Boston it's not like I couldn't. But these days I mostly stare out from the shore longingly.

I miss the stars when you're way out at sea in particular. And with that mention of stars I should probably apologize for distracting the thread from our game of Stars!.

Good luck in the game. (though hopefully not quite as good as mine) *grin*

Hi all!

I've been juggling the slots for this game a little so that we can get a sort of reunion of old-timers together.

My special thanks goes out to those players I asked if they would mind being moved to "No Holds Barred" (RnR III). I asked 7 players. 7 players said that would be OK with them...

I'm waiting for one more old-timer to make up his mind if he wants to join or not. The game will go out to Ron tomorrow. Hopefully, we will be able to start soon...

Same for me.. moved over the weekend, internet should be active tonight, but its not a sure thing. also, we still havent got the ethernet wired up and ready to go.
