Setting up Creche we wanted to give the most common conditions which are played at SAH. Consequently, CA is considered a way too powerfull than other races and usually it is banned. Desigming CA you can save a lot RW points on hab settings due to automated terraforming abilities.

Hi,

If possible I’d like to play also. I’ve played Stars before, I’m a very rusty advanced beginner. Lasted played back in 1998 using autohost against others. I took over from a player that couldn't play anymore, the econmoy was alsoready built, I just had to build ships.

The last human vs computer was recently. Still playing that, but it’s not as fun as what I remember playing against others was.

I can commit to a turn a day.

To be fair I’ll take the handicap. Please reply with acceptance of my placement in the game and I’ll get some race files setup ASAP.

Cheers

Nice!
So you haven't played any full game against human, right?
If so you are welcome as beginner!

Hi Paul,

Quick reply. Thanks.

No not strictly true, I’ve played full, one on one games many years ago with a flatmate to completion, but yes only one partial multiplayer game. Back then in 98, chaff wasn’t used nor fleet dodging. I’ve since researched these.

To make my game less turn intensive and an easier more relaxing play, I’ll take the offer to spend all the points. You know so I can play more seat of the pants style, instead of having to optimize everything to remain competitive.

Cheers

-lodadilo B
-konanp2006 B
-SAZR B
-slimdrag00n B

...what? everybody is B?
Yes, it was decided that the only one player who was a pure AB (konanp2006 has played 3 games, which is almost as much as 2 games, you know Wink ) should play with no handicap.

So, please finish your races and send them to iojho asap!
The DEADLINE is in one week: 16th december.

Additional players may still join.

1 game difference between experienced and pro isn't that much but one game from beginner to AB is a lot more experience at this stage.Well maybe for those of us on the lower end of B. Id say each game takes about a year to complete. That's a lot of schooling.

I hope I see a range of different PTR's. I'll be testing a race this week.

In some cases yes, see the Must Know section about coding bugs:
Quote:

Race File Corruption:
If you edit the race name in a race file can cause the file to become corrupt. This is especially common when making the race name shorter than before. To get around this, when editing the race name, either edit it one letter at a time (saving and re-opening each time) or copy the race data into a new file by hand.

If that's not the case make sure you are using the correct Stars! version. Check here http://starsautohost.org/kn2050.htm and get STARS26JRC4.ZIP

Some e-mail programs consider unknown files to be 7 bit files, and treat them as such. All Stars! files are 8 bit files, and changing every 8th bit to zero regardless of it's original value will make the file corrupt. However, the only e-mail programs I know that behaves that way are rather old ones, so that might not be the reason.

That is easily checked, though. First, check if you can reopen the race file yourself, to check that it is not corrupt at sender's end. If that is not the case, then zip the race file that was corrupt on arrival and send the zip file. If the race file isn't corrupt on arrival when sent in a zip file, then it is the e-mail program that caused it to be corrupt.

If it is the e-mail program that is causing the file to become corrupt, then there are some ways to prevent this. The most drastic is of course to change to another e-mail program, but transferring old e-mails and the address book can be difficult. Sending all Stars! files zipped is another way to prevent it, but that requires that you remember to do that every time, and the last method is to specify in the configuration of the e-mail program the files with the extensions used by Stars! are MIME type Application/Octet-stream.

I hope you find out why the files are becoming corrupt.

Well I know that sometimes sending files threw yahoo messenger does what you say about changing the bits. Most of the time it works and its convenient so i like it. I have had only one or two problems using yahoo mail.
When in doubt send the file threw the stars forum PM.

Make sure if you changed the race name it has the same amount of letters in it before. Adding more letters, I believe will cause corrupt.

Ah well thats my two cents.. im not pro hopefully everything works out for you.

Sadly I'm out then. I'm not even out of bed yet most days so ill miss to many Gens. I would need some time before and after to do turns. Whats everyone elses gmt's? Maybe gen time could be later in the day?

Well now I'm assuming I'm the only one who didn't realize the time of gen and that didn't know what they were getting there selves into.

We have players from absolutely different timezones. Why do you need time right before the generation? Can't you make your turn at the middle of the day or before going to sleep?

Just calm down, I'm sure we will be able to solve the problem Smile

Yeah I bugged out lol.
Well lets just say if I have a busy day or have to go someplace I wont be able to do turn.

If I make allies I wont be able to chat last minute before Gen and make last minute changes.

I wont sleep at night because all I will see is how my empire is crushed because I cant get on early enough to make changes if I needed to.

I need before and after gen time. Smile
Gen times cant work for everyone. I just wish i asked the time sooner Smile
