Is there a way I can copy my in-game messages that come to me? I would like to copy them and paste into an email to share with my alliance, but I can't highlight the text so I can copy it. Any ideas?

You can only copy them if you get the scroll bar, you could try reducing the size of the message box but there is a limit to how small you can make it.
The only other way would be to have a program to grab it from the m file directly, as far as I know the only program that could do that at the moment is a stars to xml decoder I wrote to help in decoding the stars data formats but given that the m files contain some major information that shouldn't be available that utility can't be made publicly available since it would also give access to that extra information.

If you're referring to ingame messages from players, you should be able to highlight them and use these commands:
Windows shortcuts:
Copy: <ctrl> C
Paste: <ctrl> V
You have to highlight the text in the ingame message first by left clicking and dragging over the message. Then use copy and paste keyboard commands above.
If you are referring to the general messages that come from the game itself (status messages), yeah, you can't highlight those. You'll have to follow the advice from previous replies.
