File size as received by AutoHost = 19117 bytes.
That is my biggest x-file in any game I have played so far. I had some time this weekend, so put a fair bit into it. About 10 hours. I am not very efficient, but I had fun.
What is your biggest?

yes, only one save and submit. I did not know that multiples increased the size.
When I do a 2nd save and submit, I always go in and delete my x-file with the game open, and then do a "clean" save and submit, so I am sure to get my changes included. Sometimes when doing a 2nd save and submit, the additional changes since the original save and submit are ignored. I would guess with a deleted x-file, then a 2nd save and submit would not increase the x-file size. Is that right?

As I understand it from talking to PaulCr, it would be increased but not by as much. If you really want to reduce x file size, make sure you only give each order once and don't change your mind at all as Stars! recorded each change of orders, not just the end net effect.

In my current game the largest .x file so far is 28.5k.
I believe that the maximum permitted is 35k tho I'm not certain.

Ran a quick search on all my old .x* files, largest I found: 25.754 bytes.

25kb????
Wow. Color me impressed. That's huge! The only way I can beat that is by matching the .xls files on my computer.
Ok, I had to look at mine. A 9kb, then a few 8kb and 7kb. The rest were 6kb or less. That is from 32 games, and 21 duels. I can't find the others. Probably on a hd somewhere, or lost. Well, I guess that would account for the extra ~4.5 hours for getting a turn done.

File size as received by AutoHost = 26071 bytes.
I think I know what did it.
I recombined and resplit a big fleet a couple of times (because I wanted to change something in a fleet I could not see because of the max 128?? fleets displayed??)
Seems the x-file grows a lot when you change a lot of things, even if they end up similar or the same as they were before the change. I think the x-file is just a "record of changes to the m-file." The more you change, the bigger it grows.
