I'll be hosting a sequel to Stone Age Slaughter 1, which appears to be ending now (still waiting on one player's vote). These game settings are very fun and open a whole new tech tree and race options. Host is NOT playing.
Players: 8 players, intermediate to advanced skill levels (intermediate = at least one multi-player win). If there is enough interest, I will host another game for beginners with the same parameters.
Universe: Small, normal, distant, SLOW TECH, ACC BBS
Victory: 100% consensus vote from remaining players, alliance win possible (but limited to two).
Schedule: M-T-W-T-F until at least turn 30. Move to M-W-F when at least two players have requested a slowdown.
Race Limitations: ALL races MUST take weapons expensive and the BLeeding Edge Tech LRT. There are otherwise no restrictions. BET and Weapons Expensive will be verified by the host prior to start.
Special Rules: NO TECH TRADING ALLOWED. No scrapping, no pop dropping allies for tech gain, no wolf-lamb. You may not scrap MT ships for tech gain or share MT parts through scrapping. You may trade ships to other players, but if scrapping those ships would produce tech gains, they may never be scrapped (design may be deleted, however). Sending an "observer" ship to watch a battle in hopes of gaining tech is allowed, as long as the battle is between enemies.
Gaining tech through legitimate battle with enemies (in space or through invasion) is allowed and encouraged, however.
NO PRE-GAME ALLIANCES ALLOWED. This ruins the game for everyone.
Cheats allowed: Healing after gating, chaff, split-fleet dodge. All other cheats forbidden (cheap starbases, etc).
In this game, economies will be smaller than average, weapons tech will be much harder to come by, so you may find yourself investing in other technologies to leverage your primitive weapons. Because of the tech trade rules, you'll have to be self-sufficient for tech.
Please post your interest here, and I'll be in touch through the PM function here.
John

Hi!
Quote: | Universe: Small, normal
|
That's 16 planets per player, but in SAS-1 you had ~20. Is that decrease intentional?
Quote: | Lots of good combos here, and interesting tradeoffs.
|
Yep. - With ~130 planets and 8 players 1WW's become marginaly viable (a game-spoiler for 1 or 2 closest neighbours), but 2WWs (PP and IT) should do very well for the first 40 or so turns. PP with its deadly packets and fewer livable planets for other players likely even longer.
- The HE has in this small uni some interesting variants.
- The -f HE with ~28% PGR would be for this game a monster from hell, OFC also with the hellish MM.
- With 16 planets per player, and consequently an impact of a bad planet draw hurting more, the 3-immune HE also looks quite fit for use. The 6% is weaker than the 5% HE on the econ&mineral side, but starts significantly faster.
Also lots of bad combos. - IMO anything that stars slowly will be dead by 2430. You were exceptionally lucky to survive with 4% HE.
- With likely small economies one of the dangers is "buying" RW points with expensive or even normal tech(s). Consider this: to research the tech-10 Bear shield it will cost 11k with cheap energy, 22k with normal and 39k with expensive. How long will it take you to get it if you have 5k free resources and are preparing for an imminent war? How long to get en-11 to not pay double the price for it? How much econ can you buy with 50-60 RW points you get with going to expensive tech from normal?
- fielding a low-econ race. This is a slow-tech, and also a low-econ and BET game. Don't count on gaining double territory with your -f race. They don't cope well with HGs. The best you'll achieve will be a prolonged war, that will end with you both being wiped out, because your non-warring neighbour(s) will simply over-grow and over-tech you both.
BR, Iztok

Yep, intentional. Hoping to encourage a different balance with smaller economies and tech self-sufficiency. Lots of conventional wisdom goes out the window as you have already surmised.
Surviving with a 4% HE is lucky, yes, but also requires diplo skill to pull off. with 4%, I wasn't threatening any of my neighbors with expansion, I just had to defend. There were bigger fish to fry. But you are right, some luck involved for sure. A risky choice that paid off.
So, Iztok.... are you going to play?? Hope so!
J

Something must have come up with Crappicus, as I have not received a race file from him and the deadline has passed. I have had no communication from him, and I have tried to contact with no reply, so I must assume for now that he is unable to play.
Is there another Intermediate to Advanced player who would like to play in this game? If so, send me notice and a race file before Crappicus, and you're in.
Crappicus, if you're out there, send me something!
I'll try to keep everyone informed of status here.
To the players, thanks for your patience.
John
