I'd like to give this a try. Number of games puts me in the experienced range, though I'd put myself on the low end of that group.

I'll take the last spot.

I have 5 games on autohost, but have done pretty well in them. You can count me as an experienced, if you like.

I am GMT -5.

Universe
Medium Dense with remapped HW's if possible.

What do you have in mind for the remapped HW's? Can we see the positioning before we design races, and will teams be able to determine which race takes what HW?

A suggestion:

Perhaps tell us what the teams will be and then generate 5 or more universes that we choose from. Each player ranks them and highest score is what we play.

We can probably find someone to remap them. Perhaps post in The Bar or elsewhere that is more visible to folks.

Randomly placed HW's are bound to leave someone stranded behind enemy lines, and we'd hate to have one team have a clear advantage by location. (i.e all clustered together while everyone else is scattered)

Question: How does remapping work with PP and IT secondary planets?

I know AlexTheGreat has a tool for remapping HWs, maybe he can help. You definitely need a third party to do this and check race files, players should not have any idea of the universe layout before designing races apart from the knowledge that their team will be together, and that the map is split into (assuming 4 teams) quadrants for each team. Pretty much exactly how Open War 1 was set up.

The only tool I have is a mod where the Viewer 50 becomes a 4000/2000ly penscanner. Then I can open any non-AR player's file & see where every planet is including the HWs.

I then export planet info, dump it into a S/S &, since planets are listed left to right, I can easily determine whether there are 6 races in each hemishere & with a closer examination whether those 6 races comprise 2 teams.

On average each gen takes about 2-3 minutes.

You need to move both HW & HW2.

Actually, if there are a few of them then the number of gens needed to get a good universe would increase quite a lot since, as I've said before, you cannot easily move planets between east and west & you certainly could not allow the HW & HW2 to be in different quadrants.

So now that players are confirmed, and there are only a handful of beginners, a handful of pros and the rest are experienced, is there a good reason why the two teams that want specific team members cannot have them?

If you allocate those teams first, you will find the remaining players easily form fair teams. Please let us know when you have confirmed this and we can submit races to gible for the gen.

(Everyone will need passwords on their race as host is playing obviously)

I am still deciding teams. You wont have the team you spoke of. Still interested? Maybe stick around until you see what I post.
It will be up tonight or tomorrow.
It is a little tricky because there's not exact number of beginners, experienced, and pros joined.

Gesh: I still need confirmation from your friend so i know that hes actually playing.

It'll be interesting then to see how well the team members work together, as they'll likely be going in with very different ideas how to operate. Also, there'll be at least two teams who will have a good idea of what each other will be planning now, so we could end up with two or more very similar teams.

It will be extremely interesting!

I like the PRT distribution. It will make for some interesting discussion. I've managed to brainstorm compelling reasons for and against any of the four groups.

IT over JOAT is likely. Gates, woohoo! But wait, SD/IS provide defensive perks that could help cover more vulnerable WM/SS/AR allies who provide their own strategic advantages. And who wouldn't love a mineral fountain from the AR? You might want tachyons if the enemy takes an SS. A PP with a mineral fountain? Dear lord. Or maybe have two players just cover an HE until they become entirely unstoppable.

Hmmmmm.

ok Guys so far i sorta have two teams figured out but i cant be final because Gesh hasnt had his friend message in saying hes playing. So for now this unknown guy is not playing and Open War X is now looking for one more player.

I think we need one more pro. if not it will have to be an experienced player. and which 1 team will have 3 experienced players in it.

Honestly i think CA should be in the first group again not banned. It makes a far better argument as to why you shouldnt take IT and those lovely gates then a JoAT can. Without it IT is by far the better choice for that group.

Can we see these teams at least. I think you'll find that most people will be happy with a small difference in skill, and if someone is unhappy with their draw then it can be resolved by waiting for another pro, if not then we can go ahead. I really want to see how you've worked out that the teams that half the players want to play in are unbalanced..

I think that would just shift things to CA being the best choice in a group and we'd end up with 4 CA players. Gating heavy ships is nice but everyone except HE still gets gates. A team CA is an economic powerhouse and he can give free powerful terraforming to his teammates as well.

At least in the current configuration you can make arguments for dropping Group 1 entirely.

Idea 1: AR/WM/SD. SD helps cover AR/WM defensive weaknesses, provides energy dampeners to widen the WM speed advantage, AR provides minerals for lots of lovely DNs.

Idea 2: AR/PP/IS. Large-scale packet assaults to assist fleet action. IS helps with speedbumps on offense and defense, and defense-damaged worlds make for easy pop drop targets. Intact planets using smaller invasion force means you can hit more worlds at a time.

I think CA would end up reducing the variety of the game.

Its gonna be unbalanced no matter what. Im basing teams on beginner, experienced, and pro( number of games played). A pro here might only be as good as some experienced players and visa versa. Some experienced players may be just as good as some of the beginners. Maybe someones done tons of duels that are not being accounted for. Some teams might have hard time contacting each other due to time zone difference. Lots of factors everyone will have to deal with especially not knowing how there teammates play ect..

I dont think i should post teams yet because i need one more player. If i post now before getting the last player and you start talking race designs it would mess things up if i have to change the teams. Plus it would give the showed teams advantage for more time to talk.

Im doing what i think is fair as possible. Rushing me isnt helping. You dont want to end up on a really bad team. What I choose will most likly be set in stone cause ill be thinking hard about it.

I hope i make everyone happy.

Ok so we are still looking for one more player if anyone is checking out Open War X and is interested let me know.

A guy I'm playing with in All Quiet has expressed interest in this game. I sent him a message. I think he's about the same as me, in the "experienced" category. I've sent him a message directing him to this thread if he's interested so maybe we'll get a response tonight.
