Hi all. Never played Stars! multiplayer but I've been toying with it single player on-and-off for over 10 years. Got onto HWF about 2 years ago but got distracted.

I'd like to join in your game. Wow, mines at 5/15/5 plays a lot different! Still running tests, but I'll have my race file to you on Sunday.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm worried about one thing: the speed people will build tech. I like to have a destroyer/frigate phase, some cruiser designs, battleships for a long time and finally the nubians. You can really race through tech levels without slow tech.

As for the races:

- I think 3i-HE may work. Leave one planet each turn to have it stripmined. You can also try 2*7% growth 2i-HE. Bit of micro management I guess, but hey.

- SD may work as well. Who likes to fool around with precious minerals and cargo ships where stuff goes boom all the time.

- SS has its mineral stealing, not bad with lots of planets being remote mined.

- PP should be allowed some advantage like less harsh mining settings or else noone will pick that race.

- IT: is it really too much? Yes you can gate minerals, but you still have to remote mine them and fly them to the nearest gate. I'm like why not have a 200-points-defenses for them.

- WM: you may crush your neighbor if he forgets about basic defense and has no good scanners - not unlikely. The victim cannot scream for help and neither can victim number two. Gamble race.

For the rest, I'm looking forward to playing again!

Thinking of 3i HE, they may perhaps be the best mid game race once remote miners are avalible for the same reason AR is good end game in a standard generation. All they have to do is leave their HW empty and remote mine it to feed the near by 100% capacity worlds (most likely to have at lest 2 or 3 withing 100LY at a minimum). This gives max minerals without losing the max production like any other race would have to consider.

After designing a race to test my thought it turns out that a 6% 3I HE would be viable with these forced mine settings (didnt actually test the race other then look for a solid design princible). I would then propose a penalty on the HE race due to these settings to prevent such a race acting like an AR mid game.

BTW guys when you have your race ready please send them to jrrobins at persona dot ca with the header DIG IT (forum name). Ill be checking the races and generating the universe as a 3rd party Smile

You do know that the 30% minimum only applies to the homeworld minerals if it is occupied, don't you? Only the AR gets that minimum when using remote miners.

I was just checking using leftover race-wizard points for surface minerals. The help files says for each one (up to 50) you get an extra 10kt of minerals weighted towards the rarest ones.

I generated a testbed using the same seed with 2 variant race files, one with 50 RW points left and one with 0.

The homeworld had concentrations 30/95/30.

0 points gave 331/303/536 minerals.

50 points gave 456/553/661 minerals.

That's +125/+250/+125 bonus.

Another seed gave homeworld concentrations 53/30/85.

0 points gave 251/381/1046 minerals.

50 points gave 501/506/1171 minerals.

That's +250/+125/+125 bonus.

Looks like for every RW point left, you get 5kt for the lowest mineral and 2.5kt for each of the other 2.

Hi all!

I'm sorry, but that might not work. I have a few players definitely interested who came to the game by private invitation. They might not be reading this thread.

I'd prefer the players to all send their races to me

michael squiggly thing auwers round spot de

I'll collect the races and send them off to Xardre as soon as we are complete. That also saves him the pain of prodding the laggards. Please send an email to Xardre with the following information:

player's first name, email address, and race name. Please use the following format for easy data entry:

Ron,email@address.goes.here,The Swords

(no spaces except in the race-name, please!)

Add the race password in a separate line.

That will make setting up the game for Xardre a lot easier.

If you have sent Xardre a race file already, please send a copy to me as well so I can see who is missing.

Regards,

AE

ok, so I haven't been following the threads here and I am in this game. I also don't have a lot of time to decipher everything that was written.

who are we actually sending files to? multiple people?

when are they due?

are the race restrictions still the same?

will the undead cry out for something other than brains this time?

will the bugs return?

Did not know that. Most ive ever done is used a midget miner to get minerals off a red HW that ive bombed out.

@ swp1 and Joseph!

I'm sorry, I don't know if I can still fit you in. There are more than 16 players already interested.

However, I've just sent a mail to them asking if they would be willing for me to host two games with identical settings. If nobody insists on playing in a large universe, you'll have a chance to play in one of the two games.

AE

Hmmm...

I'm in a good mood. Normally, I'd tell you that if you haven't got the time to read the thread, I haven't got the time to write a digest for you.

However, if we decide to play two games, then I will ask you to send the passworded file to me (without the PW) and then we can take it from there.

You do realise that you do not have this option under my settings? The left-over points have to be used for defenses.

Actually - in the start up you said CA and Joat (who have to have excess points) should set leftover points to defences.
You didnt say anything about the other races who dont have to have leftover points.
You probably want to explicitly state that any race having leftover points sets them to defences - otherwise people will probably leave some points for surface minerals (I know at least 1 of my test races had 50 on surface minerals!)

Hi Joseph!

A point well made. I did not say precisely what I meant.

The mandatory points (100 for JoaT, 200 for CA) have to be set to defenses.

However, if one choses to leave points over in the race wizard voluntarily for any other race, these may be set to what ever one wants.

I think this is the right way to handle this, as one pays for the benefit of those points by not being able to spend them elsewhere.

Thanks for noticing.

Regards,

AE

for whatever reason, my original email with my race file did not make it to Michael. I forwarded the original email with attachment again this morning after being told via email that there was still room to squeeze me in. Hopefully one of these will make it to him so he knows to check both his inbox and junk/trash folder in case his spam filter was being a little too exuberant because I use gmail and there has been a recent increase in the amount of spam genereated from people using it.

For details, check the known bugs thread and its original Academy discussion thread.

I just would like to know this game's policy on the repair-after-gating-loophole. From the discussion it perhaps should have gone into the standard game disclaimer but it hasn't yet.

Hi Mark,

I did mention that in one of the mails to all players. THis is allowed, as is chaff and split fleets. All other exploits are banned. There will be an updated and explicit list of all the rules of this game as soon as it is up on SAH.

Hi!

It will only appear on SAH when Ron has set the game up. You will then get a mail giving you the details and your upload password.
