It appears that Empire Interactive are on the brink of entering administration, if they have not done so already; just search google news for 'Empire Interactive' for a bunch of stories on the matter.

While it cannot be denied that this is a blow to the employees of the company, do we have anyone legally minded enough to say what effect this will have on rights to the Stars! Supernova graphics?

KPMG have confirmed they are administrating the wind down. I guess that means a fire sale for everything empire interactive owns. Two ways to look at that are either everything Stars! or Supernova will become abandon ware - meaning it is legaly still owned by someone, but there is no money to protect any rights to it - or that for a low price someone could purchase all these rights.

Anyone willing to make KPMG an offer?

Have fun.

Ron or someone else trustworthy could add a donation section. Yet I dont think the small community could raise much. I wounder how much the rights would cost.

I filled out a contact form on the KPMG website to ask them about it. Will let you know what sort of response I get.

Have fun.

News reports state that Zoo Publishing, of Cincinnati, Ohio, picked up the rights to all of Empire Interactive games from New World IP (which seems to have bought the rights from EI/KPMG).

PS: I also sent an email to their customer service, asking for more info and letting them know about us. I'm sure the more 'flag-waving' we can put up in front of their faces, the better (As in, GOOD, productive, flag-waving).

PPS: On a side note, Zoo Games, Inc. is owned by Mark E Seremet, who was a co-founder of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.

I hope you are right - as long as they don't decide to get silly about asserting their new IP rights.

Still, there's no real money to be made out Stars! The best case would be if they decided to re-release like Empire Interactive had promised to do (unlikely, although even making it officially available for download and letting people buy keys would be good), or just ignore it.

In an ideal world, it would be nice if the Stars! community could get together and buy some sort of perpetual rights to it for a nominal sum, but I doubt that's possible. Even if it was possible, the cost of lawyers to arrange it would probably more than exhaust what we could raise.

I realise asking this is almost the ultimate cliche, but... what about Supernova?

Hopefully they will build a new game on the concept of S!SN. I wont hold my breath though but we can always hope.

[Edit]
Perhaps we should invite them into a game or 2 to see the full concept of what Stars! is to us?
