How do you open a p file, to get the planet information.

I did a search on "p file" but didn't find anything. I seem to remember reading about a tool that created, and read these files, and perhaps was able to merge them too.

I can't find it, though.

thanks,

naz

p files are tab-separated text data, able to be imported by Excel. You can also open them with Notepad, or even vi. Twisted Evil

The tools you mentioned, help you to organise the information. they also give some graphical support:

* Stars! Notebook
* Xtreme Borders

Ahh, of course. So a p-file is exactly the same as a pla-file. Is that right? Maybe just the diff is extension for 2.7 vs 2.6??

Ah, not quite. They're the same type of file, .p files just have more information in them. You get .p files by changing a certain line in your stars.ini file, so that it knows to add extra information to the file when you do a planet/fleet/universe dump-to-text.

Thanks so much.

That extreme borders is what I was looking for a few weeks ago for making the maps to help tell the game stories.

And it'll help with allies info too.

nice to have all the info in one place.
