I'm just coming back to Stars! after a long layoff and am pleased to see there are still some people at it after all these years!

So... couple of quick questions:
* is JRC4 the version of choice now?
* is anyone still playing or setting up (relatively) vanilla games? I took a quick look at the new games thread and it seemed like the game set-up was just sooooooo complicated (it could just be me of course but I can't even remember all the TLAs at this point).

Cheers

I just came back myself. Didn't see any games that were up my alley, so I hosted one myself. If you've played before and know how to host on autohost, just put an ad up in the New Game Announcements forum and host it yourself. You will get players. Be patient, and be prepared to wait a week or two to get enough players and get started.

Do take a look at the other recent game postings, and try to follow their lead on PRT penalties. There are few plain vanilla games because the same PRT's tend to dominate them. The games I've seen typically ban CA, and give JOAT and IT penalties. You could just ban CA, JOAT, and IT to keep it simple. When people know they don't have to face the scary monsters, they might be more likely to jump in a new game.

Best of luck,
skoormit

What we need's a few good taters.

Something else to consider if you plan on hosting is that very few of the most recent games are just plain old games, even with the race restrictions. Almost without exception, they all have some sort of special rules, or special gen settings, or both. That isn't a bad thing, mind you, but it does mean that you might have to do a bit more work to get major interest.

I am also returning to stars! after a long hiatus. I am a beginner in skill level but not a noob to the game. I would be interested in getting in a game. PM on here to discuss.

Shadow: Just keep an eye on the "New Game Announcements" sub-forum here on the Autohost forums. I know there are a few games currently looking for players, as well as a number of games getting close to ending.

Look around and check out any games that catch your eye. Most games tend to say what skill level they're aimed at, but almost all of the ones I've seen have been for anyone who wants to take a stab at it.

I think that's more a case of attempting to keep things interesting and fresh than any balance question - this game has been played for an awfully long time now, you know. Very Happy

The old adage holds true - host a game, and they will come!

True dat, Coyote. If you're back and looking to play, just keep an eye on new games and wait. It took a month and a half for me to find a couple I was interested in after not playing for roughly a year and a half.

But the wait was worth it, and now I'm in not one, but two games while trying to run for public office. If I don't get killed off before November, I'm going to give these whippersnappers a run for their money!
