Huge game, slow tech. Hope for 16 players. Will not be ready till late august, early september. Planets will be put in clusters between 5 and 10 with large spaces between them. Clusters will be closer together in the core growing more sparse as you go out. Planets will have random habs. Have not decided on AccBBS, will have random events. PP and IT will have both planets in same solar system. No restrictions on race but all CA's, IT's and JoaT's with NAS will start in the sparse galactic edge all others will start closer to the core. Travel time should be no more than one year at warp 4 or 5 between planets in the same Solar system but 3-5 or more years at warp 9 between clusters depending on area density.(This may change as the star map is being made.) No prearranged allies. No outright cheating. (You know what im talking about.) So if you want in just say so.

Gen will be 24hr for 2 weeks with sundays off, then 3 times a week for 2 weeks, then 2 times a week untill slow down is desired.

All skill levels welcome.

May allow PP 2nd planet in nearby Solar system based upon other players input.

Players that will or may join.

I'll register my interest, although I reserve the right to change my mind, depending on my free time and net access once I get back to the UK in two weeks.

I certainly don't want to start a new game before late-august.

I was just posting to say I'm in, but I realise that you've already put me down Very Happy good good...

Just a suggestion...I'd say the player's planets should be roughly 2/3 to 3/4 of the way out from the core - so everyone has an even chance, and there will be a rush for the middle.

Correct me if Im wrong in thinking this but the idea is that you can make any race unrestricted because your handicap will be your starting position. But its more than that because since your starting position is based upon your race. So suppose 12 of 16 people pick races that will start in the core because its so rich. You end up with 12 races figthing in the core while the 4 other races that are further out get to build up their killer IT's and CA's in peace. (And just to clarafy I did not mean right at the rim but a little ways in.) On the other hand you could end up with 12 players that wanna play a monster CA or IT or JoaT with NAS so you end up with only 4 players in the core and all its riches. (Whatever happens the diplomacy will be intresting.) Thus the name Pick your Poison

i can imagine that it wuold be like the mech warrior universe.
innersphere and the outer rim 'monsters' races

the innersphere races battle eachother until the invasion of the monster races then they team up against the invasion.

maybe you can incoporate some roleply in such a way that all the sol planets (planets in OUR solar system) in a solar system.

Aww - now you've made that comparison I really wanna play an Inner Sphere race (blasting those damned Smoke Jaguar clans despite their superior tech).

Actually, sod it, I'll just break out MechCommander again (another member of my personal 'best games of all time' list).

should i be
Draconis Combine or House of Davion (Both innersphere)
:/

when i was playing MW2 mercs, it was the 4 innerspehere houses when the clans attacked.
Then in MW4 mercs, its just davion vs steiner houses and the clans attacked.
im lost w/ the mech warrior plot =(

Hehe - I like the MechCommander intro, although as an actual intro to the genre I agree the Battletech ep is better.

I'm having a little trouble picturing this universe. I assume you'll use Universe Creator to remap the universe so I wonder if you have the BMP template for it? The settings (sensitivity, etc.) to be used in UC would be useful too. Also, what density will be used (how many planets in the universe)?

What the universe looks like will have a big effect on race design including best PRTs to use.

it should be a modified version of the clusters template on UC
with more clusters in the innerspehre and less dense at the outer rim

Sure, but how much denser in the middle & sparser near the edges?

Clusters are 5-10 in size - does that mean the clusters are smaller near the edges? Distance between cluster is 3-5 years at warp 9 - does that mean that clusters are closer in the middle & further apart near the edges? If either or both of those things are true, at what rate do these things change?

Frankly, I'd be guessing at a good race design without being able to visualise the universe.

Well actually donjon has offerd to make the star map and help me host as I dont know anything about hosting. The clusters will vary in a semi random mannor and position on the star map will not indicate size of clusters. as for anything else you may need to talk to donjon but he is busy till august 25th thus the game wont start till sometime after.

now two ppl from my current game are playing this now. maybe we can all play as innersphere races.

is there going to be a limit on how many gets to play as innersphere races (near the middle) and how many gets to be the outer rim races (start at the edge).

There is no limit to the number of players that will start at the core or the outer rim. Where you start will be dictated by your race. Thus depending on what races you and the other players pick you could be crowded or have room to grow or somewhere in between. Although this brings me to ask the players what they think. I have said the the outer rim races will be IT, CA, and Joat with NAS. Meaning that a Joat without NAS will start in the inner core. Does this seem fair to you or should all Joat's be limited to the rim. Also just in case you missed it there are no prearranged allies.
