Ok, bear with me - I've been out of the loop for a long time. I came across the shareware version of stars I think about 5 years ago. Since then, I've been searching the web for some mention of the game (perhaps where I could find a full version). For some inexplicable reason, my searches were fruitless, apart from a couple of angry forum posts in random places from about 1995 asking where the serial code could be found. Then, one by one, they vanished. I thought it was gone forever - that somehow I was the only one who remembered this mother-of -all-strategy-games!
Today, I had a last-ditch attempt to find it, and here it is! I've got the new version, and found my fellow stars players! I'm so happy!
But what I want to know is this: what happened to the fuel?
I enjoyed the limited fuel supplies you were given in stars 2.0, and the only way to keep your ship running was to colonize or use ram scoops! It made the strategy that much more difficult! So where and why did it go?

My into to stars came to me in a game collection on CD... (that was the one with limited fuel) I do not have the CD any longer (my son took it back to Canada with him)... I wish I did...
If you locate the original version I would certainly appreciate a copy for my archives.
regards,
dj

I have one thing to say...
HOORAY FOR ME!!!
Aren't you glad I joined now! On a slightly sadder note: the wiki download is unfortunately the shareware version. It was the full version of stars 2.0 I was looking for, I have a serial key.
I don't really mind about finding the old version now though, I have been asking questions on the academy forum and have found that minerals are not infinite as I first thought, but apparently the density decreases over time, so you end up hardly being able to mine anything at all. That's cool with me, as long as the danger of my economy crashing and burning is still there and very real, I'm happy. =)
I'm so glad that I've finally found my bretheren in the world wide web. I really did believe I was the only one left, and it's difficult to spread the faith with a game like this. All everyone wants today is better and better graphics. My friends and even my brother cannot understand my love for this game XD
Anyway, thanks everyone for your help in trying to find an older version, I think I'm more or less over the nostalgia now. There are things I am going to miss, and I've found it's still very easy to let your ships run out of fuel on the new version =P (I bet you're beginning to wonder if I'm massarchistic). However, if anyone DOES happen to find that they own or know the whereabouts of an older version, I am still intersted...
