I don't get why they don't just release Stars supernova as shareware like they did with the original Stars.
I realise by this stage that they will probably never get a publisher for it anyway, so why not release it and disable some of the features (some people would call that crippleware). I'd be happy to buy the full version ASAP over the internet and just print out the instruction manual, as I'm sure many other dedicated Stars players would.

The creators would have immediate sales, the purchasers would have a new version Stars package and sales of the shareware could be utilised to get greater interest from these good for nothing publishers (an expression, in this instance, of frustration rather than a dig at any particular publisher).
Everybody wins and nobody loses (unless a backstabber comes along and steals your HW....lol).

Regards - Steve

We do not currently have full rights to the title. The details are complicated and confidential but legally we couldn't even give Supernova away until we acquire the full rights to the title from Empire Interactive.

Which needs money.

If i'm also not mistaken the game isn't finished either... which will require money.

If I'm also not mistaken there isn't anyone funding the completetion of the game or anything else... I may be wrong, but that was the last I heard.

Well actually the last I heard was that you were in contact with someone with some serious money... and it was a long shot, but possible. I'm not gonna poke and prod and try to pry out any info because I gave up a long time ago.

It's reached a stage now where I don't care how or why S!SNG comes out just as long as...
a) it does come out EVENTUALLY.
b) It's 100% complete. No half-assed jobs just to get it done.

I've waited a long time and I don't want it next week if it's gonna be crap, sure people will say "oh but it'll look so out dated" etc... But look at stars.... how many years old?? I'm still playing... as is pretty much everyone on the forum... aren't you?

As I see it, because Empire Interactive currently holds the rights to Stars!, and Mare Crisium is part of the Stars due to development, they can't just change the title, and that comes down to one reason, if there is ANY code in SSG from stars that code is currently owned by Empire Interactive, thus Empire Interactive has to give up all rights to Stars before Mare Crisium can sell SSG at all. Crying or Very Sad

Hopefully Xianni is really in talks with Mare Crisium and His "Unknown" Money source, we would like to know if he is for sure, Jeff's any response? Yet we can always hope that Empire will relinquish the rights so that we can buy the game we certainly have been waiting for, I know I have been for at LEAST two years.

I've wanted it since the '98 release date in my computer games magazine I used to get. Last episode I got still had the order for it in the back. They kept just pushing the date back. Chips n' Bits.

I've probably stepped on some toes, (and I'm not ready for SN - I'm still having too much fun with Stars!) but Empire Interactive denies holding the licence for SN.

(To EI)
Quote:

The stars player community has been waiting for the release of S:SN since
1998. Myself, I only discovered Stars! a year ago. As Empire Interactive
holds the rights to S:SN the developers (Mare Crisium) cannot even finish
and market their product on their own. Please either provide the resources
needed to get S:SN released in a timely fashion or give up the rights to
S:SN to Mare Crisium so that they may finish S:SN on their own resources.

(From EI)
Quote:

We hold the license for Stars! but not supernova, in fact check here:
http://www.crisium.com/sn/ , they are looking for publishers themselves.

Interesting. Did the Empire Interactive representative sign their name to this statement? Was this an email conversation? If so, can you forward it to marecrisium at crisium.com? Thanks.

That would be very sexy indeed for Mare Crisium. If EI doesn't own the S!SNG license, well.... (starts foaming at the mouth)

Over two months passed, now. Could anyone please do a little follow-up? Was the quoted-from reply of EI sent to MC? Or was it just another "incomplete" information?

why don't we send a message to empire interactive and say in it to let go of the rights so we can play aleady. and if they don't. we can send them another message saying "you'll be sorry Twisted Evil " and get tegeather and make a copy of it and give it to everybody that wants it for free like we are doing with stars right now. and then when ever they get around to selling if (if they ever) they will make no money off of it becouse everybopdy already has it Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
