Im sure its been heard before but I had played Stars! back in the 90's when I was a kid well only the demo really but anyways I found a copy and here I am looking for a game as a beginner. Something with slower tech growth or something like that. I would also like a somewhat open game with few restrictions. Soooo if anyone was thinking about starting a game like that I would love to hear from you.
Well since I seem you have gotten some attention Ill just be waiting for a host to step forward and notify me. Any other beginners that would like to jump aboard feel free. I would like as many players as possible. Hope to hear from more people thanks.
Yes I have seen the game gunboat dipl. Sorry but Im not intrested in that one Ill be happy to wait untill somthing more my speed comes up.

May as well throw in my lot here, although without the 'low tech' requirements. I played half of a beginner game in the late 90s/early 00s (it was a beginners team game with a dumbbell shaped galaxy, each team of 4 having one of the lobes with a bottleneck in the middle, if anyone remembers it), but aside from that have no multiplayer experience, so I'm a definite beginner.
Looking to get back into the game, preferably with a relatively 'normal' setup, not too many strange restrictions! (I spent too long pondering whether the pacific theatre game would be a good starting game - by the time I decided I might want to play it was full...) Diplomacy is a definite must though, imo, which rules both of the currently open games out though, afaik.

LEit wrote on Tue, 17 June 2008 15:47 | I don't really see the point in locking any thread. But the standard here seems to be to lock new game announcements once the game starts, presumably to force the discussion out of the new game forum.

In terms of Game announcements it is supposed to indicate the game has been filled and will be genned. (New players need not apply)
However, versioning actually confuses the issue (take a look at Tempest 5 and 6) although I have tried to not lock...
