Hi all!
Schizophrenia is over. Congratulations to Gianluca and Micha for a very convincing victory!
I'm offering a new game called LSD. Nine players have signed up already (offers always go out to the players of my current games before the announcement here).
Long, Slow and Dirty
Current ideas for the setup:
BET is a mandatory SRT.
IFE as a SRT is banned.
The Nubian hull is banned.
CA, IT and WM PRTs are banned.
JoaT may not chose NAS.
IS has to leave 50 unused points in the Race Wizard which have to be set to "Defenses".
Each race may have one ally only. All other races must be set to 'Enemy' at all times. Cooperation with all other races is banned using the same rules as in Schizophrenia. No pre-game alliances.
If an alliance is forged, it is permanent! IOW, you may only look for another ally if your first one is out of the game (inactive or dead). Alliances have to be publicly announced when they have been agreed on. A NTP will check occasionally for compliance with these alliance-rules.
Size of Universe: Will depend on the number of players. About 30 planets per race. If the game fills to 16 players, the setting will be Large/Normal. However, the universe will be stretched using a utility. (http://wiki.gible.net/index.php?title=Utilities/Game_setup)
Reckon with distances between planets being about 4 times as far as in a usual universe.
No Random Events will be marked - the universe will not see MTs or WHs.
Galaxy clumping will not be marked.
Slow techs will be marked.
ACBBS will be marked.
Usual cheat disclaimer.
I'm open to suggestions and comments on the setup.
Regards
AE

Hi!
Thank you, Andreas, that was a detail I did forget.
Schedule will be 5 days a week (Mo - Fr) for the first 20 - 30 turns. Any time after 2420 that even one player requests a slow-down, it will go to Mo-Wed-Fr.
If that should still be too fast, a further slow-down to bi-weekly turns is possible. But this will be by majority-decision of all active players, so don't count on it.
From my testbedding, I'd say the strain during the first 30 turns is not so high that it can't be handled.
Regards
AE

OK, holding a slot for you.
No hurry on the race file. I'll post an advance warning here a few days before I want the files.
But I'll wait a little first to see if there are any more takers.
Rrrroll up, folks, rrrrrroll up!
Ten gone, six to go!

Hi!
I'd accept you. But I'd strongly advise you to think twice - I'm afraid it wouldn't be a very enjoyable game for you. We have a few very good players taking part (they tend to turn even intermediates into mincemeat in a very short time). Added to that, the setup of the game is rather taxing, even good players will need to do extensive testbedding to come up with a race-design suitable for the universe and the other conditions. I'd suggest you go for a game specifically aimed at inexperienced players first, before you try your hand at something like this.
Let me know if this doesn't put you off, and I'll reserve a slot for you. And I'll try to find someone to give you a little advice regarding race design and game play - if you care for that.
Regards

Hi!
If you want in, you're in.
Don't send me the race design. I'm playing in the game myself, that's not the kind of advantage I want.
I'm sending out an email to a couple of friends who are knowledgeable and who aren't taking part in LSD. I'm sure one of them will have a look at your design. In the meantime, I'd suggest three things to help you on your way.
Check out the articles at:
http://wiki.gible.net/index.php?title=Article_Library
Read as much as you can possibly can. There's a lot of wisdom hidden in yon old tomes... Pay particular attention to articles about race design and economy by Jason Cawley. Most of the things he had to say still hold true today.
Design a different race for a normal testbed (small, dense universe). Don't design it with the parameters for LSD, use the best possible settings you can. Then see if you can reach 25k ressources by 2450 with the race (without AIs to hamper you).
Use the stretch-utility to testbed the race you've designed for LSD. The results will be nowhere near what one can achieve in a normal universe (the settings prohibit that), but you will get an idea of what the longer distances mean in regard to race design and game play.
AE (aka Michael)
PS: Is there a name to your nomiker?

Hi all!
Time to think about finalising your races. The universe will be large, either sparse or normal.
Please PW your race and send it to me at michaelATauwersDOTde.
If you haven't done so already, please send a mail to the above address (Subject LSD) so I can include everybody in my mailing list for the game.

I realize there is something i want to play that i never have..so if there is still a spot open sign me up..
i also, when signing up for games originally, never realized that they eventually shift to 48 hr turn limits. So most likely i can afford 1-3 more games...there aren't really that many nights in which i don't have 1-3 hrs during the day to play stars if i so wished
also, i think based on my duel decisions I should officially be labeled n00b first class...my current class just doesn't reflect:)

Hi all!
We have a full game - 16 players. Sorry if I couldn't fit everybody in.
When LSD is well under way, I'll announce a new game (probably sometime during the summer).
Can somebody close this topic?
Thanks!
