Treat this as my vote. Will follow majority even if I have to live with PPS. The game idea and other settings sound interesting, so even PPS will not deter me. Just do not know why PPS would have to make the game better. IMO, some information should be kept hidden (e.g. ships number, planets). Scouts are for this purpose.

BTW, maybe one more restriction, i.e. only in game messages correspondence in order to promote players acting alone. It will make combined actions more difficult to coordinate. I realize that it would be hard to check and trust between players would be necessary but I think it is worth to try. Smile

There are some very interesting strategies which can be used to deceive players when playing PPS. Personally, I did not choose PPS but I had ignored how it could be manipulated in such a short time span game. I am not saying I will set it; I will still leave this open to the other players to vote on (and presently it looks like 2:1 for PPS.) But, I do believe it could add a dimension to the game.

I want to sign up..also i have two friends who want to join since the other game i was trying to host fell through it seems

i would be against PPS, and i'm sure at least one of the others would dislike it as well..

is it ok if we join? or if just one or two are allowed in that would be fine as well...the heading says 8-10 and it seems 8 have joined:(

When version Jrc3 came out there was some extra checking for hacked racefiles which was implemented...

Unfortunately there were some side effects:
basically if you save over a racefile you have likely corrupted the file see
however, I also believe that building a racefile from the game menu also corrupts the file. The only way I have useful results is within the game definition (add new race).

Most of the time it's changing the name with more than one character at the time. The "improved" checking of race file hacks has something to do with that IIRC.

Let's say you name your race (single or plural) House Cats, save and close the .r file. If you open the file again and change the name to Nees it will become corrupt, you'll have to change/delete/add one character -> save + close -> open and change 1 character -> save + close etc till the name is right ...
Or of course simply rebuild the race and use the correct name right away.

Specifically, shortening either the singular or the plural by more then one character. If you rename the Nees to the House Cats, there is no problem. It could be useful to get a name down to 1 character and then keep it, then you could use that to start each race.

Technical hypothesis follows:
My guess is that it stores the name with a null terminator (standard C method of storing strings) and if you shorten it by one character the null wipes out just one character, if you shorten it by more then that, there are some characters left dangling, and the checker finds the discrepancy. For example: "House Cats" renamed to "Nees" will leave a string like this: "Nees\0 Cats\0". When displayed it'll show Nees, but if it checks every byte, it'll find the trailing characters.

We have six players... that is viable...I have a couple more who have submitted but need to resubmit their race for various reasons... however, I will make the universe this weekend.
