Weird, that should return you to the Stars! entry/splash screen. Have you tried just closing the application and restarting?

Yeah, I tried exiting the app. I tried selecting the game, choosing close, and then exiting the app. I have Stars! 2.60j on two PCs, one XP and one Vista. Does it on both.

Thanks for your replies! That was fast!

Hmmm,
I run stars! at home on XP and here in wine under etch... close actually closes the game and you see the splash in 2.6j.

The only thing I can think of is you have some dialog box open which is requiring input from you. Hmmmm...

You are in the tutorial... have you exited it properly? If the instructional dialog is hidden... open it again by choosing tutorial from the help menu.

After your proper inputs it should close down gracefully.

Try just exiting the app.

Also, what does happen when you exit the app?

It should come up with a dialog box...

You are presently running the tutorial,
Do you want to exit the tutorial?
[Yes][No]

If this doesn't appear to be happening... likely the dialog is hidden behind one of your windows... minimize everything and see if you can find it Smile {then say "yes"}

Well, no dialog boxes. When I start the app there is a splash screen and it has buttons to start new, open a game, continue game, and exit the app. If I choose open game I get a Windows 3.1 style file explorer to browse to the file. If I choose continue, it opens up the last game I had in the window. But I look in the File menu and I can see that other games are open. They seem open anyway because I can flip between them. Maybe they aren't open but recent files? Maybe I have a funky version of Stars?

Yes, recent files not open files. When you select one it then closes the current game and opens the selected. You can test this by making a change to your current game, but do not save, then select a game from the Files list and you should be prompted to save your game before it opens the new game.
