Hi all, I am back after a long vacation from stars
Looking to start a game where new players can learn the game. (I have a buddy that is now interested in playing against humans for the first time)
The intent of this game is to let the new players learn, make mistakes and develop their skills. Not for an expert to take over the game.

Game parameters
Team Game: All races belonging to other teams must be set to "Enemy" at all times. No intentional tech swapping with the enemy by battles. All interaction (except fighting of course) with these other teams are prohibited.
No of players 8-10 (4-5 new players - less than 5 games against humans) and 4-5 Intermediate players - No experts please)
Game start - Dec 1 or soonest thereafter
Race restriction: CA is banned.
Medium Universe
packed
distant starting positions
Acc BBS
No public scores
Clumping
No cheats, split fleet is not considered a cheat

Any race missing 4 turns WILL AUTOMATICALLY be set to inactive.
Winner declared by unanimous vote of remaining players after year 80. If not unanimous, then the vote will be repeated (when requested) until a unanimous decision is reached.

Each beginner player will be teamed up with an intermediate player, pre determined teams ok. (In my case, I will play with my buddy). Hopefully the intermediate team player will assist the team with the race file development.

I will ask a known experienced player to setup the universe where the team players HW's are near each other (but still distant) with no other race between them.

Game will be played on AH, 24hr gens for first 20yrs (unless any team asks for a slowdown), then max 48 hrs. No gens on holidays (ie Xmas)

If you're interested in playing, please contact me at:
kenstars (AT) shaw (DOT) ca

If a beginner wants to play and does NOT know of an experienced player to form a team with, I will try and find you one.
Do not send me your race files as I will be playing. All race files will be sent to the setup person.

I guess chaff is considered a "feature" and not a cheat, too? Rolling Eyes

So this is a game with pre-game alliances?

How will team mate location be determined?

I'd like to play.

I think I'm half way between beginner and intermediate since I've played just once here on autohost and few times with some friends of mine.

Is there a date for the game start or do we just wait for enough players to come?

I thought of limiting some races, but then this game is for beginners to intermediates. I thus allowing all races but CA. And a JOAT would be an excellent choice for a beginner.

The game is to use the distant setting. Thus all races HW's will be far from each other. But I have one of the Moderators, Micha, agreed to assist in game set up. He will ensure that the teams are next (but still distant) to each other and with no other race inbetween you. Some randomness will still be present, as the intent is not to make this a complex setup. Use a fixed seed in the universe creation, and just alter the player race files to get them to meet the above criteria. No moving of HW's (or secondary worlds).

I can play in this one if the other game I'm in ends soon. I'll update around the 24th.

I've never finished a game online yet, so I would consider myself a beginner.

Don't be afraid to point me in the right direction. ~^.^~

Who are the 2 complete teams?

My partner & I joined via email to the address you included in your original post but have heard nothing.

With you & your partner, Maxfra & partner + us I make it 3 teams. Confused

I'm interested - I've played in...two games vs real people, so I'm a beginner.

But would be willing to play with a not so experienced host, if need be.

Though the better the..better...

Will ask a friend or two about more..

nb - is friend based tech trading allowed?

Yes, all interactions between your (one) friend is allowed, just no use of any cheat.

Also, still looking for some experienced players (2-3) to join up with some beginners?

Wouldn't I wish, but with my "good" computer gone, and what little time I can still call "free" pretty much the same, I don't see how I could. Sad

Well I guess I fit the bill. Been around awhile.

Based in Oz ... so there may be timing issues in working with a partner.

Game to start Dec 1 (but depending on Ron).

We are in a dead spot now on games starting since there are relatively few players and most of us are in games currently. When those games end, new ones will begin and you can get in then. You will have to keep an eye on the site for when it happens.

You can probably get someone to play you in a duel (1 on 1) at any time.

Have you played against the AIs and read through the articles on strategy for play against humans? Do you know what 25k by 2450 means? Have you done it?

Welcome Tom!

Unfortunately, the "Hidden Friends" game is the only one enlisting at this stage & that is calling for more experienced players. There has, however, been a number of games suitable for beginners recently & hopefully another will start soon - take a look at "New Games" every few days or so.

Playing against humans is not easy but it's a great game & you should do OK if you follow Velvetthroat's advice, particulary the strategy bit: Altruist collected a bunch of strategy links here:
http://starsautohost.org/sahforum/index.php?t=msg&goto=3 0172&rid=933&S=858b42857030c4278749ebc70282c8e7

Personally, I would firstly go through the Official Strategy Guide & the "Stars Must Know" section on this forum, particularly the tutorial on how to get 25k by 2450.

If you can get close to 25k (say 15k) you'll probably not get blown away quickly. Also, beginners are prone to selecting WM, SS or HE. You should resist that in your first few games - play CA (if not banned in that particular game) or JOAT first which are the easiest to play & which produce good early economies provided your race design is OK.
