Was inspired to start a new game since I'm now down to one real-life game and one of my real-life players has... decided not to play anymore (loser). Anyways, since my Pitch Black game got absolutely nowhere, I figured I'd try a slightly different tactic...

The Time: 2400 AC - After Collapse
The Place: The (Former) Empire Of Man

Well, it finally happened. After 100 years of expansionist imperialism and 100 more years of revolutionary uprising, the Human Genome Virus has finally run it's course. The empire of Man, formerly spanning hundreds of planets and millions of cubic light years, has been reduced to a handful of sparsely populated worlds, enclaves of isolationists who hid underground, living off of lichen and beer brewed from recycled urine, until the last traces of the Virus were gone.

Finally emerging from their bunkers, they see the cities demolished, the glorious spaceports reduced to heaps of rubble, and interplanetary communications all but extinct. A few barely functional ships, little more than shuttles, are found still operating in orbit, but by and large... they blew it all up. Damn you.... damn you all to hell.

As each world struggles to restore it's former glory, it soon becomes evident that other worlds survived. Unsure who's a friend and who's an enemy, the Empires of Man rise from the ashes... but who can they really trust?

THE RULES
---------

PRT
- Everyone is Jack of all Trades... yay humans!
LRT - This is where the factioning comes in. The following are the major (former) factions:

Clockwork Industries - Increased Fuel Efficiency, manufacturer of top-quality spacecraft
MetaTerraFirma - Total Terraforming, world engineers
Valhalla Excavation - Advanced Remote Mining, resource specialists.
Stellar Homes - Advanced Starbases, Low Starting Pop, zero-gee society.

If you want to pick IFE, you're a Clockwork, and cannot pick TT, ARM, AS or LSP (you can figure out the rest). All the other LRTs are ok.

You can set anyone to Neutral, but you can only set your own faction to Friend. To make sure things are balanced, we'll see how the registering goes, and some redistribution of factions may be required (if we get nine MTFs and three CI's, I'm gonna kick out sme MTFs.)

If anyone has any more ideas for factions (combinations of RS and UR, I dunno!), let me know. Smile

With everyone as a JOAT, I hope it helps to reduce some of the complicated racial design, and place more emphasis on the skills.

The standard cheat restrictions apply.

.....

How's that sound?

EDIT: I wanna play, so looking for host.

Interesting, but, what would be the universe size & density? Will there be MTs?

...I suppose I could host.

I'd rather not play in this one as I don't like JoAT (Sorry humans. Razz), but I've got some spare time. Besides, I've gotta learn how to support the autohost group, neh?

Crappicus, I assume you'll define the final setup yourself, or should I?

Don't be afraid to point me in the right direction. ~^.^~

Hi,
I now have some spare time and I'd like to play.
Just some questions:
- Universe size and density, as m.a. already asked (I won't play in huge), and other settings of the game
- Is allying (tech trade, common strategy) still allowed between races of different factions when the setting is kept as "neutral"?
- Just a note: Valhalla Excavation(ARM) is clearly weaker than Clockwork Industries (IFE). Will there be any kind of balancing?

Hi Crappicus!

Nice idea...

You'll have a lot of races playing with OBRM and NAS (who wouldn't? Laughing ).

You might want to make those two LRTs unavailable for other factions by creating a faction that hogs them for itself.

This does give rather a lot of points in the race wizard. The faction might have a slight advantage Wink .

So it might be better to handicap it a little.

You could call them the Mad Scientists and give them the following compulsory LRTs:
OBRM
NAS
GR
BET

Just an idea to make the game (and race design) a little more interesting.

Regards

AE

More ideas occurred to me after I got all this typed out Smile

Unified Piracy : RS / NAS / OBRM / BET. The group behind the virus that god just a SMIDGE out of hand. Problems researching their own stuff, prefer to steal it.

Also, it will be medium (or large, if we can get enough people), and either Normal or Dense (I prefer Dense, but a lot of people here don't seem to). The Mystery Traders would be automated military fleets from the Old Empire wandering around, waiting to be pillaged (make up some excuse for why they need 5000kt of minerals Smile )

Not sure how the allying would work best... the thing is, I don't want different factions trading tech until all of a given faction meet up. Suggestions?

5000kt of high-grade mineral dust is the only known way to fool their No-nonsense Automated Defense Systems while your hardy scave^H^H^H^H^H researchers plumb the depths of their tech. More than 5000kt is advised for longer & potentially fruitier searches. Cool
