I'm currently playing 2 games, one is at 2435 and has PPS, the other is at 2416 and doesn't. I've substantially changed the race between the 2 games and while the 2nd does appear to be doing substantially better than the first, I don't yet have enough experience to guage how it is likely to compare with other races in a non PPS game.
The game with PPS scores allows you to directly see how you compare to other races, the non PPS you can only see your own current position. Whilst being listed first is obviously better then being listed last it doesn't neccessarily mean you're the strongest player. ie in the pps game the person who is 2nd in resources is listed as 5th despite having 50% more resources then the person in 2nd and over twice as many as the one in 6th, mainly because he only has 8 planets compared to mid 20s for most others.
I would be interested in opinions on what a good beginner/intermediate/expert should have in resources and tech at 10 year intervals in a real game, obviously an IT would have better construction at the start and WM better weapons etc.
ie

                   2410 2420 2430 2440 2450
Intermediate (res) 900 2000 5000 10000 15000
Intermediate (Energy) 1 3 6 10 10
Intermediate (Weap) 3 6 10 12 16
Intermediate (Cons) 3 5 8 10 13

Resources depend on game conditions. Rolling Eyes Technology ... if it is not better than in testbed with very same race then it is weak player. Wink

You should have enough to hold your own against the other players. There's no way to establish a rigid metric of skill levels by looking at the numbers - you can kinda get an idea but the main factors are whether or not there's a war on, and the way the race was designed to play.

Looked over most of my real game archives. The only correlation that i found was that i have usually about 1 kRes at 2410, about 2 kRes at 2420 and 6-8kRes at 2430 in Acc BBs game. Rolling Eyes
Further development and rest of things fluctuate rather heavily depending on the game conditions. Nod

I just checked back through my games, at year 2440, to see how much my economies have varied...

Lowest I've ever had in 2440 was a rather disheartening 7k Crying That game ("The End") isn't over yet, but the race subsequently conquered most of the universe and now feels unbeatable, barring some genius moves by the surviving races. Twisted Evil

Highest I've ever had in 2440 was 23k Shocked Sadly I had to retire from that game at that point. I found a replacement player, but he was defeated. Dead

See my point? Sherlock

There's no substitute for intel gathering. If you don't have PPS, then you should work to estimate your opponents economies and, more importantly, the fundamentals of their races so you can judge their *actual* power, and how this is likely to change over time. Actually, you should do this even if PPS is on... Last game I played with PPS I had 8k at 2440, in the bottom half of the rankings in every category except ship count, and that only because I was using frigates against cruisers... That position came through for a comfortable win too... Very Happy

Build more scouts Nod
