maybe someone is interested in this:

we had a battle over a planet, and the owner was set to friend
by both races that fought, so his base did not apear in battle,
also none of his ships.
still he got tech from that battle...

funny - isnt it?

what happens if 4 parties meet at a planet, with 2 fighting
each othter (2 pairs)... do there occur 2 different battles
at the same spot?

(so a,b,c and d meet, a has set c and d to friend,
b also, but a and b fight... same with c and d...
so 2 battles on the same spot, one between a and b,
one between c and d).

is there a possibility for new wolf-lamb settings?

well... not of much importance, but still funny to know...

Shocked

Robert

Guess the owner got a message like: Debris from a battle in orbit of X learend your scientists level Y.
Don't remember exactly, only saw it once ...

Now that is a good question, mabye two battles indeed, or else one battle with a and b fighting, c and d fighting and a and b ignoring c and d ...
My guess would be two battles since you only have a battle with a race that has orders to attack you or your ships have orders to attack his. But maybe Stars! has a limit (like many others) in the amount of battles at the same coordinates ...
I'm certainly going to test this when I get home! Thanks Robert! Grin

Well, turns out you get one battle with all four races, a and b shoot at eachother, c and d shoot at eachother. Looks like another Stars! limit popped up his ugly face: only one battle at a certain spot in space, all sides get thrown in together ...
Makes planning battles a bit more complex if you need an exact numbers of players on the board ...

mch

I seem to remember this undocumented feature was treated on the newsgroup some time ago. It's certainly not new, but good anyway to reming to everybody here. I had forgotten, certainly my age kicking in Crying or Very Sad

IIRC this can only happen when the party that is NOT involved with the battle owns the planet, AND has a base there.

No. To my knowledge this is the only way tech can be gained from a battle, without actually being involved.

Then again. Maybe I am wrong....

If the W/L (for a team of 3 or more) sites were over the planet of an ally who was not building ships (like a mineral producing AR) then the W/L battles could be fought at that player's planets. Or maybe at any other player's planets that were poor in minerals (or for some other reason are not building ships). This could potentially save a design slot.

I would imagine the chances of getting a tech gain are about the same as a battle, or scrapping.

But it sounds like a lot of extra MM for not much gain.
