Rather than continuing the discussion in the 5 game ideas thread it seems better to start a seperate one.
Since getting details of the MT item location fom KOTK's post I've started to look for other locations and have found where the tech levels are located.
I've modified my site http://stars.atlantissoftware.co.uk/data/custom/ to allow Modifications of tech levels as well as MT Parts. I've also included a technical details page which will list the meaning of any locations I find.

The source code for the tech level modification is available at http://stars.atlantissoftware.co.uk/data/custom/TechLevels.t xt
It's fairly simplistic and was written quickly so it isn't as clean as I would normally write it. The MT Levels editor uses similar code so if you understand this you should be able to work out how to edit the MT Items as well. It's written in vb.net as an aspx file and expects parameters from the html file on my server.

Only the host should be able to update the .hst file so their shouldn't be any problems of cheating in Multi player games but being able to give MT items and tech levels changes from the start of the game could make for some interesting scenarios.
I like the MT Ebay idea that started this.
Example Scenarios that I can think of.
Could be useful in handicapping different ability players.
Give an AI full tech and MT parts and see how it competes with humans.
Having a neutral player act like an MT with full tech and MT items that could sell items to other players for minerals.
Have everybody start at tech 0 with all expensive and auction off a set number of starting levels in return for race points.
Tech levels can go past 26 so you could start everyone off with tech 127 making everything available and buildable very cheaply (Nubian,TS10,18 Arm,9 Nexus,6 CP shelds,3 overthrusters for 352i/111b/171g/232r).
My page doesn't allow tech above 26 at present but I'll probably change it next time I access the server.

I'd appreciate it if you'd be willing to send the utilities that you created to me. I'm trying to collect all that I can so that later I can help create games for other players where I only host. I've also been trying to get Wumpus to send me a utility for creating the wormholes (and I do have the file location for the wormhole info I think).

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.
