I'd like to play a game with a few other humans... not too many, though, since I am discovering that I am barely even "intermediate" player on these games.
I'd like there to be two human teams, and one AI team... the AI's would be set to "Form Alliances", and I know it's a bugged feature, but at least it will make them SORT of act like a team. I figure two teams of 3 humans, and a team or 6 or 7 AI's, to make it 'fair'. The human teams would be against eachother, as well as the AI, so it would be a three-team free-for-all.
Now, as for the teams, I'm undecided as to whether I should
a) Make each team a preset triumvirate of PRT's
b) Make each member of a team the SAME PRT...
I think it would be neat to see three Human Warmongers go up agains t three Human Inner Strengths and against six AI Alternate Realities...
... or you know, something.
If you wanna play and have ideas for play, lemme know!

I like it, I've been wanting to try my had at a team game that's not too advanced. Teams of 3 or 4 sound fine to me too.

Wow, I forgot about this thread. Yeah sure I'd be just fine hosting, this would be my.... 3rd? or 4th game I've hosted. No problemo.
If players don't know anything, or much of anything, about each other a random draw would be about the same as players assembling their own teams. Plus it'd be a great chance to meet new players and it'd solve for players ending up with team sizes too large. A nice clean lottery sounds good to me.
Heh.. It makes me think about using a random number generator to select player groups. Though I think rolling some dice would probably be easier.
Who'd do the lottery, if that is what we want?
Oh and I need at least a firm choice on density. Size is also nice, once we make a choice on that we can test our races out, I know I will be. Slow tech is an interesting possibility, I've not played a game with slow tech but I understand it becomes somewhat of a technocracy and those with cheap fields are REALLY valuble trade partners. Or so I hear.
Are you sure you want moderate starts? It'll be pretty tight, with a lot of emptiness away from the clump of players. My test game shows it'll be REALLY crowded on a large/dense/clustered map. It's cluster is about as cramped for some players as being on a tiny map. Let's just use the standard "distant" instead shall we?

Thanks Capt,
Here's my suggestions (FYI - I have never played a multi-player stars! game).
1: Map size = 40 planets per player with normal density, so it will depend on the number of players.
2: Slow tech.
3: No public player scores.
4: Make 3 teams, that way the weakest of the 3 can help the 2nd place team vrs the 1st place and keep things lively for longer.
5: Have the host pick 3 team names, and each player can declare for a team after turn 10 (allows basic scouting of neigbours and some negotiations). No team can have more than 4 members until the other 2 teams have 3 each. Declaring for a team should be in the private game forum, and is 1st come 1st served. No changing teams once you're in.
6: Joat can't take NAS, CA can't take OBRM, IT can't take NRS.
Don't restrict the PRTs to 1 of each please.
Winning team must own 50% of all planets.

Just throwing some ideas out there, I'm happy to play a team game of any sort, as I'll likely learn faster.

I agree, a pre-game alliance sounds better, it's a good way to get the most out of your team's abilities.
If you guys would like I could roll some dice to choose teams. But there are currently 10 players and that'd mean one team gets 4. If we had 2 more players things would be easier.
What will we do about locations? I could (though I probably shouldn't) shift the homeworlds around so teams start together. But then in fairness I'd have to either A) change all the HW names or B) publish the HW names. Or C) get someone else to do it for us. Or D) we don't worry about it and let random chance happen.
