I'd like to play a game with a few other humans... not too many, though, since I am discovering that I am barely even "intermediate" player on these games.

I'd like there to be two human teams, and one AI team... the AI's would be set to "Form Alliances", and I know it's a bugged feature, but at least it will make them SORT of act like a team. I figure two teams of 3 humans, and a team or 6 or 7 AI's, to make it 'fair'. The human teams would be against eachother, as well as the AI, so it would be a three-team free-for-all.

Now, as for the teams, I'm undecided as to whether I should

a) Make each team a preset triumvirate of PRT's
b) Make each member of a team the SAME PRT...

I think it would be neat to see three Human Warmongers go up agains t three Human Inner Strengths and against six AI Alternate Realities...

... or you know, something.

If you wanna play and have ideas for play, lemme know!

Honestly if its a team game perhaps just make 3 teams of 3-4 players. AI is real just to random to throw in for a team game.

Id also suggest for the PRT it being a random pick for teams (trying to keep only 1 PRT an team so some PRT switching may be needed) or player co-design PRTs once teams are set, as a team of 3-4 CA or 3-4 IT would be hell to out economy/fight.

Not for me to suggest (i am no beginner) ... but:

If you want playable team game then make it consist of teams of 2 players and/or take slow tech. Take relative little universe up to 20 planets per player. Force all races in team to have different PRT (so no IT+IT combo). Ban CA-s or force every team to have one TT CA in it. Confused Let some third party to arrange HW-s ... so allies start close to each other.

At no rate take AI-s. Homeworld of AI Cabbagenoid in your next door monster backyard adds no fun factor to you but just that someone has fresh wild vegetable that you dont have. Laughing

Generally why i suggest it is .... team games with 3 or 4 players per team have tended to be rather boring strategically. Few powers to have interesting diplomatic/strategic options. Nod Modern person is individualist. Teamies are forced he got to cooperate with them almost whole year (what a pain Wink ). Economy and tech goes up too quick ... what you build now looks obsolete for your opponent 5 turns later (when it arrives). Wink So build it... or just another milestone ... it goes up to nubs.

I'd like a few more teams (maybe 4 of 3 players each), and can plan races beforehand. It's been a long time since I've played a 'proper' team game... but I'm definately 'in' for this one. I'm firmly in the beginnermediate class.

any chance of maybe including a more advanced player on each team in a teaching role? if so, would you hamstring their races (ie leave x amount of points in racewizard) to prevent a bit of a battle of the titans with us kiddies all caught in the middle?

I think this would be a good game for beginners to practice being on a team.

Id like to play!

I like it, I've been wanting to try my had at a team game that's not too advanced. Teams of 3 or 4 sound fine to me too.

Can we get a list of players up?

So far it seems to be:
ADG_Wraith
whitewolf199
q974739
Traveller
countvasquez
Kelzar
Crappicus
Captain Maim
wchart
Joestars

If you're still willing to host, Maim, that'd be great.
Maybe if we set some parameters?

Teams: 3 players each. May trade, NAP, etc with other teams, but may only set own team members to friendly. Teams may be selected or drawn randomly.

Game settings:
Medium/Large universe
Dense/Normal
Moderate Player positions
Acc BBS
Slower tech
Galaxy Clumping
public scores (after 50?)
12 players, ie 4 teams
victory when average team score exceeds next average team by 50%, or agreement from all teams.

Wow, I forgot about this thread. Yeah sure I'd be just fine hosting, this would be my.... 3rd? or 4th game I've hosted. No problemo.

If players don't know anything, or much of anything, about each other a random draw would be about the same as players assembling their own teams. Plus it'd be a great chance to meet new players and it'd solve for players ending up with team sizes too large. A nice clean lottery sounds good to me.

Heh.. It makes me think about using a random number generator to select player groups. Though I think rolling some dice would probably be easier. Smile

Who'd do the lottery, if that is what we want?

Oh and I need at least a firm choice on density. Size is also nice, once we make a choice on that we can test our races out, I know I will be. Slow tech is an interesting possibility, I've not played a game with slow tech but I understand it becomes somewhat of a technocracy and those with cheap fields are REALLY valuble trade partners. Or so I hear.

Are you sure you want moderate starts? It'll be pretty tight, with a lot of emptiness away from the clump of players. My test game shows it'll be REALLY crowded on a large/dense/clustered map. It's cluster is about as cramped for some players as being on a tiny map. Let's just use the standard "distant" instead shall we?

Thanks Capt,

Here's my suggestions (FYI - I have never played a multi-player stars! game).

1: Map size = 40 planets per player with normal density, so it will depend on the number of players.

2: Slow tech.

3: No public player scores.

4: Make 3 teams, that way the weakest of the 3 can help the 2nd place team vrs the 1st place and keep things lively for longer.

5: Have the host pick 3 team names, and each player can declare for a team after turn 10 (allows basic scouting of neigbours and some negotiations). No team can have more than 4 members until the other 2 teams have 3 each. Declaring for a team should be in the private game forum, and is 1st come 1st served. No changing teams once you're in.

6: Joat can't take NAS, CA can't take OBRM, IT can't take NRS.

Don't restrict the PRTs to 1 of each please.

Winning team must own 50% of all planets.

I was under the impression that the teams would be set before the start and be locked together for duration.
(Predetermined alliances)
I was also expecting that each of the teams would get together to create races that would harmonize with the balance of their team.
(Triumvirate idea)

Just throwing some ideas out there, I'm happy to play a team game of any sort, as I'll likely learn faster.

I agree, a pre-game alliance sounds better, it's a good way to get the most out of your team's abilities.

If you guys would like I could roll some dice to choose teams. But there are currently 10 players and that'd mean one team gets 4. If we had 2 more players things would be easier.

What will we do about locations? I could (though I probably shouldn't) shift the homeworlds around so teams start together. But then in fairness I'd have to either A) change all the HW names or B) publish the HW names. Or C) get someone else to do it for us. Or D) we don't worry about it and let random chance happen.

Is there a reason 2 players couldn't control 3 races to get the 12 race total? I would recommend that you team up newer players with ones with more experience as teaming up three first timers wouldn't generate much mentoring. Maybe we should post the rough number of multiplayer online Stars! games each has played to get an idea?
