Stars! works on Windows Vista

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

Don't upgrade to Vista. Stick with win98/xp, it's more resource efficient and doesn't have the serious negative issues of Vista. Plus, it'll be far more stable, until Vista gets updated a few times and there's no telling what'll get broken by each "fix".

Stars! runs just fine under WINE in my experience so you could go with something like OpenSuSE...

From Steve's post I assume that he's looking to get a new machine, so if he gets a Windows machine it will in all likelyhood come with Vista pre-installed. Also, since it's a new Vista ready machine it should work just fine, it's trying to upgrade older machines/OS to Vista that is causing problems.

At any rate, Stars! works fine in my W2000 machine. Why would I ever consider upgrading that? Cool

If it comes with Vista on it, fscking reformat that mess and put xp on it instead, or if you're up for it some sort of nix. You could even dualboot. AFAICT there is NO advantage to using Vista - it'll slow you down and crash more, not to mention the uissues with drm and "trusted computing" which have potential for horrific anti-functionality consequences. It's a huge step backwards. The only possible reason to use it is for DirectX 10, which nothing currently uses - and sooner or later that'll probably be adapted to run on older versions anyhow.

Not much academical content here. Wink So moving it to the Bar, that is as long as it stays Stars! related, else I will be moving to the Circular File.
