Micha: I checked the stars.ini file, but couldn't find the "Newreports" field. Then I went back and read your post and realized you said "add," not "change." Doh, doh!
Anyway, thank you for offering to check the race files if I do have them restricted . . . still waiting on that one though.
Quote: | No need for .x files, the .h file is the only important file.

The .x files are turn files, right? Don't you need them to check for cheats, or can you do that directly through the .h . . . or the .m's?
At any rate, I'll remove the bit about generating .p files every year.
craebild: That's OK, I've taken you off the list for the time being. If you'd like to play still just reply here again, or PM me.
And everyone else: We still only have a few players, so anyone who'd like to join please reply here. I am a new host (it's probably pretty apparent), but I'll do the best job I can on this game!

Quote: | When are you going to make the decision about what you are doing with CA?
|
Saturday.
Quote: | Is there still room for a CA?
|
Yes. I've added you to the player list.
Here is where we stand:
1. Ron has graciously created a Private Forum for Hardheads, so once the game starts I'll send everyone the password.
2. On Saturday I'll check the poll on Claim Adjusters, and the option with more votes wins. If there's a tie then the CA's will be restricted. The restriction I've decided on is that they won't be able to have Total Terraforming.
3. Please PM your race files to Micha by Monday so he can check them for passwords and the restrictions, if we restrict CA's.
4. Please declare your rank here by Monday, or PM me with your rank if you don't want others to know. If you don't have a rank yet you can opt to either enter at Beginner or Lower Intermediate--it's completely up to you, so you can classify yourself as you like.
5. Please PM me with your email addresses by Monday.
At the moment we have six players, and five others have expressed at some interest. The game is by no means full though, so if anyone else is interested don't be afraid to sign up.
And that is where it stands at the moment.
Yeah, bread too.

Ok, it's Saturday night and I just checked the CA restriction vote, and no restriction outnumbers restriction by 5 to 3. So, it's official now folk:
CA's will not be restricted in Hardheads.
Also, I can't edit my original post now, but one other person has asked me if they can play, so we're up to 7 players.
Everyone please put together your races and get them into Micha for password checking on Monday.
And I believe that is all ATM.

Quote: | I'd like to join in (rank: absolute total beginner ) Still, got to start learning somewhere.
Race file is on its way.
|
ken-reed: The game hasn't been generated yet so I've added you to the list. Just send your .r file in to Micha if you haven't already done so.
Quote: | I read that it said they had to be in by Monday, but given that people kept joining, and you STILL hadn't made a decision about CA, I thought it prudent to ask. Sorry for the inconvenience.
|
Crappicus: sorry about that. I was in a bit of hurry to get to work when I wrote that post. It probably was best to verify when you needed the file turned in, as you did.
Update:
It looks like there have been some misunderstandings about when race files need to be in and such. I realize this is my fault, since I didn’t lay it out expressly enough. So, in order to make sure everything works out correctly, I’ve put together a timeline, which should clearly and succinctly summarize everything up to this point
Timeline
1. All race files for Hardheads need to be turned in by 12:00 AM Mountain Standard Time (midnight tonight for me). That means you have about 12 hours from now to send Micha your race file so he can make sure they have passwords. In addition to race files, I will still be accepting players until then. So, if you still want to join you can until 12:00 AM tonight. Just send your race file in to Micha before then. Races can have any PRT, any LRT’s. Cheats are banned except split fleet dodge, chaff, and ISB trumps IT gate scanning.
2. In addition to sending your race files to Micha, please email me at richfactor <at> hotmail <dot> com or PM me with your email address, as well as your current rank. Remember, if you don’t have a rank yet, you can arbitrarily decide what rank you want to be, either Beginner or Lower Intermediate. I need everyone’s emails to send to Ron once I start the game. Once I have everyone’s ranks I will PM Donjon and let him know the info on the game, so that at the end everyone can change in rank accordingly.
3. The game has not yet been generated, because I have not yet generated it. On Tuesday around 12:00 PM Mountain Standard Time I will generate the game and then send all the files in to Ron. In other words, I’ll generate about 12 hours after the race files are due. After that, it’s just a matter of Ron setting everything up on Autohost.
Now, this is where we are at the moment.
Player List:
1. Iconian
2. Ptolemy
3. craebild
4. Mikey
5. Kwik
6. Crappicus
7. cyph34r
8. ken-reed
9. Martin
If you are on this list, please send your race file in to Micha by 12:00 AM Mountain Standard Time if you haven't already done so-—about twelve hours from now. Micha wrote me a few hours ago saying he had 2 race files in at that time, so we’re still missing a few at least.
Other Possible Players:
In addition to these people for sure, I’m still waiting to hear from a few other people.
Dogthinkers, m.a@stars, and NeotheWhite: We still have several open slots, so if you’d like to play please go ahead and send Micha your .r files. If I don't hear from you and don't get .r files from you by tonight I'll assume you don't want to join.
There are two others I’ll contact personally.
Last Call if You Still Want To Join:
Finally, this is the last call, so if anyone else wants to play, we still have at the very minimum four open slots, possibly more. If you would like to play this game and aren’t yet signed up, here is the Hardheads tutorial I created:
Hardheads Joining Tutorial
1. Reply to this thread saying you want to play.
2. Tell everyone your current rank according to the Ranking Forum (or you can PM me if you'd rather others not know your rank). If you don't have a rank yet, you can arbitrarily decide to be either Beginner or Lower Intermediate.
3. Create a race design and send it in to Micha by 12:00 AM Mountain Standard Time, about 12 hours from now. You can have any combination of PRT and LRT's. Cheats are banned though, except split fleet dodge, chaff, and ISB trumps gate scanning.
*looks around*
Well, I believe that is just about it. I feel better now. Hopefully everything is well understood. If anyone does have questions, etc, you can PM me or email me at richfactor <at> hotmail <dot> com
I’ll be on and off throughout the day, so I should be able to get to your questions, etc, by then.
EDIT: Added cyph34r to the Player List.

You said you were going to add me to the list... am I still playing? I'd rank myself as beginner, race file is in (twice, second one had a revision, its the one I want to use)
EDIT: thanks

OK, the race file deadline has come and gone, so hopefully everyone who wanted to play sent their files in to Micha.
At this point I'm waiting to hear back from Micha. You did all remember to put a password on your .r files, right? If not, you should quickly send Micha a passworded file--a throwaway sort of password that you'd be willing to give a replacement player (I actually forgot the password on mine and had to resend it ).
Once I generate the game, everyone please also send in your .h file to Micha every five years, to facilitate replacement player, and if you do change your password in the future please tell Micha what you changed it to.
That's all for now.
Yeah, bread too.

OK folks, here's where we stand.
Player List:
1. Iconian
2. Ptolemy
3. craebild
4. Mikey
5. Kwik
6. Crappicus
7. cyph34r
8. ken-reed
9. Martin
10. q974739
Those in bold have turned in their .r files with passwords. So, Ptolemy, craebild, Kwik, ken, and Martin, please get your files in to Michal.
Netscape: If you're using Netscape, you can try to put your .r file into a zip file and then send it out. It probably won't become corrupt that way.
ken-reed: you turned the file in but it's corrupt, so you'll need to get the new version of Stars!, recreate your race and resend it to Micha with a password.
I'll keep everyone posted.

OK,
Ptolemy, craebild, Kwik, and Martin still aren't turned in. I'll contact them personally in a minute. There might also be one other.
Anyway, I think I've delayed this long enough. Originally I would have liked to start on the 26th. I knew there'd probably be delays of course. But, I'm not going to let this get out of hand. Barring natural disaster, we'll wait until Thursday at 7:00 PM GMT (38 hours from now). Regardless of what we have then, we start up. So, if you've not turned in your file, please do so, with password, etc.
I guess this gives everyone some extra time for testbedding to find new techniques, etc, so there's something good from it anyway.
EDIT: Originally I put "we'll wait until 7:00 PM GMT (38 hours from now)." When I wrote that I had meant Thursday at 7:00 PM GMT, which was 38 hours from when I wrote . . . anyway, it now says Thursday.
