hi

i would like to play a game with some space in it. as i have not hosted many games yet (and no long term game at all) i search for some tips and also some players.

at the moment i'm thinking about the following but as said above i'm realy open to suggestions and would like some input. so tell me what you think about my thoughts down below.

8-13 -> large normal
13+ -> huge
slow tech
no AcBBS
no publich player scores for at least 100y
team/aliance win possible

also i'm think about something that i read in the "iron Legion" ad.
» Races should have a points handicap thusly:
AR: 50
SS/PP: 100
WM/HE: 125
SD/IS: 150
IT/JoaT: 175
CA: 200

ciao markus

I think most people prefer a galaxy size smaller than large, even for 16 players. Games set in a large or huge galaxy eventually become very cumbersome, go on forever, and/or do not complete due to overwhelming dropouts. Probably get more interest with a medium galaxy; maybe select a "packed" density for many players. my 2 cents

Last medium I played, the Nubianera started at about 2492 (with slow tech). So if you think that's too slow...

Why isn't fast tech an option btw Wink

I completely agree. Being a MM freak I limited myself to games with less than 30 planets per player. I did a mistake again, joining a game with about 50, fighting an advanced (expert?) SD, so my turn takes now more than 4 hours to finish. I'm doing quite good, so it's still interesting, but less and less. I'd like to live too. Wink

i have an idea how to manage balancing PRT powers...

what if the game is made up like an auction?

allow all PRTs only once, the one who's bid has the most leftover points for the PRT plays it.

so if one is willing to spend 200 leftovers for his CA and still thinks he can win, ok... maybe the AR with 0 leftover points is stronger...

let the people decide what the PRT is worth on their own...

ok, game setup takes a bit longer, and PRTs are only taken once... but the weaker PRTs get a chance and you dont have the discussion why HE may have more leftovers than others etc...

just my thoughts...

Downside to such an idea is if X number of players want to play X prt, you may lose interest from the players that wanted to play the PRT of their choice.

The other issue is of course finding people who want to play the remaning PRT's.

Still... if only HE are left over Zoid should be interested Smile

Wow, cool idea, Robert. I like it. Freakyboy does have a point though, about losing potential participants who have their heart set on playing a certain race.

In what verson ...can one delay posting of public scores.
My perception is that it is fixed at 20 turns. You either have public scores at 20 turns...or you dont!

The scores are also made public when a winner is declared in a non-PPS game. Thus by setting some very easy to achieve victory conditions and at least X years must pass before a winner is declared the score will then be made public on year X(+1?).

Hi
Nice idea, but I like the "races out of box" suggestions to hadicap races by giving them "useless" LPT like UR, MA etc...
and immunity manipulation. my 2 cents

I won't be able to join the game, so don't take me seriously Silly hair
