Greetings;

I'll put together my race tonight. I had to work this weekend, which was quite a surprise. Naturally that demonstration of how much I am needed was followed by notice that I'm being included in a layoff... should be interesting, since a lot of engineers that are to be kept rely on my work. I foresee big bucks to be made when management figures out that they need me after all.

Edit: race file sent.

Hi all,

Due to the restricted access to internet, Alter Ego will send the files to me just tomorrow. So we have to postpone the game generation for a day. I hope that it is not a problem for you.

Best regards,

Hi all!

As your host has already said, I was without access to the web for a couple of days.
Sad

I did have a fleeting look at the mails in an internet-cafe, but there was no way to check files etc.

I'll catch up on the correspondence today and then send the files to Iojho.

So: if anybody has last minute changes to his race, you have a couple of hours more.
Cool

Hi,

Finally, the game has been created and files submitted to Ron. All we can do now is waiting. Cool

All players that applied the will of the play submitted the race files. Very Happy

You just beat me, I was about to ask about the progress.

It is nice to hear that we will be playing soon, hopefully Ron will set up the game shortly.

Did you request a private game forum for the game ?

Yes, I included request for a private forum for the game as well.

Good, then it is just a question of when Ron sets it up.

I don't remember which time zone he is in, but it is now 9:25 am on the US east coast and 6:25 am on the west coast, so he might still be sleeping.

I have one suggestion. When Ron sets up the game it will IIRC be on hold. I suggest that you at first set the max. time before generating a turn to a high value (a week is 168 hours) to ensure that all players know the game has started and can upload turns, then you change it to the normal max. time before generating a turn of 24 hours. That way noone will miss their first turn because they don't know the game has started or cannot upload their turn for some reason, but the game will still generate a turn when all players have submitted their first turn orders.

Which time zone does each player live in ? I live in Denmark, which is GMT+1 (after we end daylight savings time tomorrow night, and until the last weekend in march when we change back to daylight savings time).

What are the rules (if any) on contact between players after the game starts ? Are in-game messaging the only method of contact allowed, must first contact be made through in-game mesaging with further contact by e-mail or instant messaging (such as ICQ, or Windows Messenger from Micro$oft) allowed, or is any method allowed at any time ? I think that detail should be discussed, and a ruling decided, before the game starts.

I notice no one has answered your questions yet. I live in the eastern US, which I believe is GMT-5 now.

As far as contact goes, all I've noticed that can be connected to that is the 'no pre-game alliances' clause. My preference would be no email until in-game contact has been made.

"normal" procedure is to leave the game on hold until all players have submitted thier first turn and then begin the regular schedule.

I know that is the normal procedure, but if the game is on hold, then it does not generate a new turn when the last player submits his turn, and a week should be more than enough for everyone to submit their first turn.

If there are still people who have not submitted their first turn after 5 days, then iojho can extend the deadline or put the game on hold at that time. I was just making a suggestion that could make the game proceed a little faster.

I am in Ontario Canada - which should be GMT - 6 with daylight savings time, I think.

My opinion is email is fine - in-game comms are far too slow for any serious diplomacy. I do however, think that all direct communications should be with races you have spotted in the game - any 1-1 contact sooner than that just doesn't make sense from a roleplay perspective Wink

One winner only.
Winner by vote (active players only).

The above mentioned clause seems imprecise therefore it should be discussed more since it is the only one winning condition. We should decide what majority of players designate the winner. Will it be unanimouse vote or perhaps certain majority for instance: 3/4 of players?

I opt for unanimouse vote.

With regard to communication - I opt for no restrictions in this respect, since even though restrictions would be applied, it will not be respected by players who would play as pre-game alliance. I hope that one winner condition is enough to prevent before such situations. Sooner or later allies will have to fight each other.

If you need to know I am playing from Poland what is GMT + 1 hour.

One has not won if he has opponent who openly disagrees with it. Wink

Well said. Unanimous vote of all (active) players is the way to go.

And don't forget... *One winner only*. In my eyes, more glory and respect goes to the player who goes out fighting than the player who ends the game in 2nd place.

Ron usually does things like setting up the games and private forums over the week-end. He will certainly get to it.

Once the private game forum is set up I will ask to get this topic locked since the game has already started.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

Better to ask for a private forum right away (when reserving a slot on AH or at least when sending the game files) since it might take some time till the private forum is up.

I'm keeping this thread open till everything is in place. (potential players should be aware this game already started and it's no longer possible to join ...)
I'll see if I can catch Ron on ICQ to ask him to speed up the forum creation ...
