Interesting. That conflicts with Kevin Hutchinson's reply to me (and someone else here on the forum) on April 10. I've emailed him again a few days ago, but havn't gotten a reply back yet.

Any news from the guy? Or can we assume they abandoned the game and you can start issuing serial numbers?

Getting some access play numbers ....

So after loving the game for too many years, I have infected the guys in the local LAN playing group.

Problem is that I need more player codes to play multi-player, and no more new games to buy!

Any way to trade around some numbers? Is there a reliable crack out there?

Try contacting empire. If you ask them, they seem to give you a free serial anyway Wink

It seems to me that it's time to start handing out serials now. Empire seems uninterested.

This game needs new blood!

This is a pity, though I own ONE copy, I waited for empire on rereleasing so I could buy a bunch of new ones for playing with some friends of mine Crying or Very Sad

Wasn't there a discussion that the rights on Stars! were bound to distributing it? Can't find that thread though... But if that's correct, the Jeffs would be/become once again the sole owners... Maybe that would be the occasion to publicate the code?
What ever will be decided for Stars!, I hope to get that bunch of serials for my friends...

I'll probably retire from stars after my game completes, after which I will donate my serials to a community pool. If I have the time, I'll set up a system on darkcluster.com where people can use community serials to play a game to avoid any conflicts.

All right then, being the more impatient kind of guy that I am (waiting for rerelease! (hah), or someone's impending retirement !! (is it possible to give this game up? I would know a few more languages by now if I had been using my time productively)) I offer to begin the code sharing pool.

Figuring that if you take my 2 and start a local game in Phoenix, and I start a local game in Toronto with my crowd, we won't be banging into the same serials and crashing a game.

I have 2 to donate to the good of the cause. I also figure these codes are not enough for you to hack my system and steal all my money, but then again, what do I know.

I'm not sure that Ron wants codes posted here; I guess you can PM writer for codes - Ashlyn

Have fun, return the favour.

Not a good idea.

I have to cover my own backside folks, and cannot allow Stars! AutoHost to be thought of as encouraging any kind of 'software piracy'. If Empire Interactive truly said that they were NOT going to re-release the game, then I wouldn't mind so much as then there would be NO legal way to purchase it.

But as long as there is (or 'will be' (supposedly) in this case) a way to legally purchase Stars, I cannot sanction sharing serial numbers.

Any update on this? I've moved twice and gotten a new PC since the last time I played, and I can't seem to find my Stars! serial anywhere. This really sucks. Checked the Empire website, and a search for Stars turns up nothing.

Empire Interactive will just give you a fresh serial if you say you need one.

I am again offering serial numbers on a donation basis.

Can you please announce that also on RGCS? There are still old players looking at it occasionally.

BR, Iztok

As ninja_squirrel said : the Empire (Sales dep.) gives serial numbers for free for anyone who contacts them.

I tested it and received serial ( and this fresh one is working with 2.6 and 2.7 versions without problems).

I posted this info at Polish Stars Forum with information about possibility of receiving Stars! serial from Ron Miller
( and about donation too). So im expecting some new Stars! players in our society Very Happy

First off let me say hello to everyone. I played Stars! years ago in a shareware collection called "Galaxy of Games" and loved it, so finding that there is still an active community was a fantastic surprise.

As for this topic, I just sent an email to Empire requesting any information they have about buying or obtaining a serial code, I'll post again once they get back to me.

Also, I noticed that the Stars! FAQ site lists a website that sells the serial numbers. I checked it out and the site still exists, but it doesn't look like it's been updated lately. I'm a little bit nevous about emailing credit card info to an address on a site that hasn't ben updated in 2 years. Has anyone else used this site lately ? The adress is http://stars.lelv30.net/

Ron talked to the Jeffs (programmers) and they agreed that he can give out unique serial numbers.
